From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,
Wow! What a great weekend of firsts for the 2023 Tiger Band!  All 99 volunteer sign-up spots were filled, helping to make the first Home Game of the season Concession Stand adventure a roaring success. Congratulations to Kevin Smith, Gina Bisett and Heather Wisham and crew, and THANK YOU to all you awesome volunteers!
The Tiger Band had a very strong first performance at halftime, the show is coming along well and the students are working really hard.  Kimberly Bertram's March-a-thon fundraiser was and is a great event that helped spread positive PR and recruiting opportunities to the community. Donations are still being accepted through Friday, September 1st.  The students did a great job, had a great time doing it, and got to have KONA ICE at the end.  Looking forward to launching this event in a different neighborhood next year!

President's Update

Hey Band!

Wow! Everyone really stepped up for volunteer spots on Friday night! We filled all 99 volunteer spots! I know it was hot, but we really appreciate everyone helping out! March-a-thon was a great success! Thank you to everyone who helped out or came out to Belterra to support our kids!

Spirit Store – The spirit store will have spirit shirts until Tuesday evening. Thunder in the Hills shirts are also available for pre-order in the store as well. Pickup for TITH shirts will be at volunteer check-in on the day of the event. Spirit Store Login

Now that we are in the full swing of all things band, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions. Contest season is just around the corner, and I’m sure some of you will have questions! I hope you and your students are having a restful day!

Go Tiger Band!

Thunder in the Hills - Almost Here!

Hey Band!

Thunder in the Hills (TITH) is rapidly approaching! It is September 16th and we have a record 35 bands participating this year which means, once again, we will need all hands on deck. There are many different volunteer opportunities so sign up quick to get your favorite spot!

Each year, we sell a t-shirt at the event. The students love to have these to wear throughout the year. They are currently available for pre-order on the spirit store. If you purchase in advance, it will be available at volunteer check-in for the event. Parents are also welcome and encouraged to buy one and wear as a volunteer for the event.

If you have never experienced TITH, you don't want to miss it! It is so much fun watching all of the incredibly talented percussionists, including our favorite- our Tiger Band percussionists performing at 6:15PM.

Thank you for all of your support! I hope everyone gets the chance to be a part of this fun day!

Percussion/ Pit Crew Update

Percussion/Pit Crew:

THANK YOU to everyone that assisted with Pit Crew on Friday night.  It was our 1st home game and we appreciated everyone’s help.  This week, we will have our 1st away game and the duties to assist with Pit Crew are a bit more:

  • Assist with pushing to practice warm-up area from trailer
  • Push equipment on the field for the half time performance
  • Push equipment to the trailer after performance

Please be sure to sign up early this week so we make sure we have enough adults to support the movement of the equipment.

Percussion Shirts – I will be placing an order for any parent or additional student percussion shirts by end of day Tuesday 8/29.  Please send me an email if you are interested.  For those that have already responded, I will send you a final confirmation on Monday to confirm shirt size and shirt design.

See you Friday.

Fundraising Update

Thank you to everyone who helped make our very first March-a-thon a huge success!  We could not have done that event without the huge parent volunteer presence we had.  Also, thank you to the Belterra HOA for hosting us and for providing Kona Ice for all of our band kids.

All of my best planning couldn’t fix the heat that morning, but our kids handled it like pros!

Our Belterra neighbors donated over $2000 to our March to Indianapolis fund, and I expect that number to keeping creeping up.  Not only that, but the community PR and band recruiting we did that morning were priceless.

Our Givebutter March-a-thon website will remain open until the evening of Friday, September 1st, so keep those donations coming!  We will announce prizes this week, but assume it will be based on kids meeting their $300 individual goal.

If your child helped pass out door hangers last weekend and would like service hour credit, please email me by Monday night so I can get the certificates done.

Please contact Kimberly Bertram at fundraising@dsbandboosters.org with any questions.

Uniform Update

Away Game against Wagner Friday Night, September 1st: Students will be required to wear their Informal Uniform of black shorts, grey polo (tucked in), black belt, no-show black socks, black shoes and band cap.

Volunteers for Kubby Keepers needed:  Our first game to wear the formal uniform is September 15th. Thank you to the people who have signed up so far, but we still need 6 more Kubby Keepers to help keep our uniforms fresh and clean. This volunteer job is perfect for any parents who can't help during other events, but can come after a game or competition and take home ten sets of bibbers and jackets to clean and get them back into their cubby by a set time of day. It is basically only two extra loads to wash each week. A bonus is if your student drives themselves to and from school, they can pick up your set and bring them back for you. This volunteer position lasts for the entire school year as we wash through UIL Sight Reading and Spring Concert season.  If interested please contact us with your email and cell phone number at uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.

Sewing Group:  We need to make 200 sets of drops and inserts before our first competition (9/23). There are many jobs (not just sewing) to get these finished. If you can cut material, sew a button, iron or use a basic sewing machine or serger, we are in need of your help to start sewing these inserts and drops. We are still awaiting delivery of material, but once it shows up we will be all hands on deck to get these finished. Come join the fun to get these made.

If you have any further questions, please contact us at: uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.

Thank you,

Su Gibbs and Suzanne Gusella

Concessions Update

Thank you to everyone that came out to work in concessions on Friday! We were able to staff the home, visitors, and two remote stations…ALL with band families!  We sold over 4600 bottles of water, around 650 bottles of Powerade, and well over 1000 sodas and tea plus a bunch of candy and food! Although it was busy and HOT, everyone pitched in and seemed to have some fun together!  A special shout out to Heather Wisham and the rest of the freshman families that came out for the first game!  Heather has worked tirelessly as she learns the ropes in concessions.

Please keep signing up for our concessions events…there are only 4 more regularly scheduled home games, so let’s get them all staffed.

September Concessions Events-

9/16 - Thunder in the Hills

9/22 - Home Game - Bowie

We are looking for a lead for Friday early prep. Please contact Kevin Smith if you are interested at concessions@dsbandboosters.org.

Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures

Going forward, we ask that you follow the following procedures for drop off and pickup.

  •  Drop off for rehearsals – You may use the Driveway Loop to drop off your student, but do not stop or wait. Please pull as far forward (past the first entrance to the loading dock). Be cautious and aware that students will be pushing equipment onto the practice lot.
  • Pickup from any rehearsal or event (football games or contests) – Please park in the parking lot and have your student walk to your car. Do not pickup, stop, or wait in the Driveway Loop. Buses will need to use the Driveway Loop to drop off for events, and students need to use the ramps from the band lot into the Driveway Loop for moving equipment back to the band hall after rehearsals.
  • Drop off/Pickup for School – For before and after school at regular school start and end times (not a band rehearsal), refer to the drop off and pickup procedures that the school issues.

Photographers & Videographers Needed!

We are looking for a team of people to take photos throughout the season to document everything! We also need people willing to take videos. If you are interested, please contact Caryn Pacelli at president@dsbandboosters.org for more information!
