From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,

I hope you've enjoyed our football bye weekend and got some great rest for you and your band student.  The next 3 weekends are going to be fun and full!  Thunder in the Hills on Saturday, 9/16, our first 2 contests on 9/23 and 9/30.  TITH and contest days are long, exciting, fun, and tiring - but most of all they're an opportunity to show off our community and our amazing Tiger Band students and parents to the marching band community at large.  While there will be inconveniences to bear and sacrifices to make, I can promise you that some of the very best experiences and memories you and your student will have will be on these long days.

I am always thrilled when I hear students say that they surprised themselves at how well they fare on contest days, and how proud of themselves they are.  Being proactive and making sure that good rest, good eating habits and making smart choices with free time (ie keeping up with school work) will help to ensure the very best experience possible.  All of the Tiger Band students of the past have not only survived these marathon days, but are thriving today because of the perseverance and follow through they learned from contest days.   I'm excited for your student to have the same kind of positive experience, regardless of the competitive outcome.

Band Volunteer? DSISD Registration is Required

As a reminder, all band volunteers need to be registered as a DSISD volunteer with a completed background check on file. This is the same process to register as a classroom volunteer. You are required to register or update your registration every 12 months.

Thunder in the Hills - Almost Here!

Hey Band!

Thunder in the Hills (TITH) is rapidly approaching! It is September 16th and we have a record 35 bands participating this year which means, once again, we will need all hands on deck. There are many different volunteer opportunities so sign up quick to get your favorite spot!

Each year, we sell a t-shirt at the event. The students love to have these to wear throughout the year. They are currently available for pre-order on the spirit store. If you purchase in advance, it will be available at volunteer check-in for the event. Parents are also welcome and encouraged to buy one and wear as a volunteer for the event.

If you have never experienced TITH, you don't want to miss it! It is so much fun watching all of the incredibly talented percussionists, including our favorite- our Tiger Band percussionists performing at 6:15PM.

Thank you for all of your support! I hope everyone gets the chance to be a part of this fun day!

Percussion/ Pit Crew Update

Percussion / Pit Crew:

We have a very busy week ahead of us and will need everyone’s support for a successful AWAY game on Friday, 9/15 and then the Thunder in the Hills event on Saturday, 9/16.  Please sign up early so we make sure that we have all positions covered.  Currently we have some very significant gaps in Adult volunteer support for Saturday, however a HUGE SHOUT OUT to all the students that quickly filled every position after the TITH meeting last week.

If anyone has any questions about volunteer duties and/or availability please send me an email at percussion@dsbandboosters.org.

Thank you all in advance for supporting these activities this week.

Go Tiger Band!

Uniform Update - Help Needed

Away Game against Austin Friday Night, September 15th: Students will be required to wear Formal Uniform for the first time. They will need their grey lycra bike shorts, grey dri-fit, long black socks, and black shoes. It is advisable that the student keep all of their items in a gym bag of some sort.

Volunteers for Kubby Keepers needed:  Our first game to wear the formal uniform is September 15th. Thank you to the people who have signed up so far, but we still need 3 more Kubby Keepers to help keep our uniforms fresh and clean. This volunteer job is perfect for any parents who can't help during other events, but can come after a game or competition and take home ten sets of bibbers and jackets to clean and get them back into their cubby by a set time of day. It is basically only two extra loads to wash each week. A bonus is if your student drives themselves to and from school, they can pick up your set and bring them back for you. This volunteer position lasts for the entire school year as we wash through UIL Sight Reading and Spring Concert season.  If interested please contact us with your email and cell phone number at uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.

Sewing Group:  We need to make 200 sets of drops and inserts by October 14th. There are many jobs (not just sewing) to get these finished. If you can cut material, sew a button, iron or use a basic sewing machine or serger, we are in need of your help to start sewing these inserts and drops. We are still awaiting delivery of material, but once it shows up and the material cut, we will be all hands on deck to get these finished. Come join the fun to get these made.

If you have any further questions, please contact us at: uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.

Thank you,

Su Gibbs and Suzanne Gusella

CoVPs of Uniforms

Concessions - Volunteers Needed

We have a full press for volunteers to fill ALL concessions positions for both Thunder in the Hills (9/16) and our next home game (9/22) Please sign-up.

September Concessions Events-

9/16 - Thunder in the Hills

9/22 - Home Game - Bowie

We are looking for a lead for Friday early prep. We still need a lead to provide consistent organized guidance to prep volunteers before our home games.

Please contact Kevin Smith if you are interested at concessions@dsbandboosters.org.

Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures

Going forward, we ask that you follow the following procedures for drop off and pickup.

  •  Drop off for rehearsals – You may use the Driveway Loop to drop off your student, but do not stop or wait. Please pull as far forward (past the first entrance to the loading dock). Be cautious and aware that students will be pushing equipment onto the practice lot.
  • Pickup from any rehearsal or event (football games or contests) – Please park in the parking lot and have your student walk to your car. Do not pickup, stop, or wait in the Driveway Loop. Buses will need to use the Driveway Loop to drop off for events, and students need to use the ramps from the band lot into the Driveway Loop for moving equipment back to the band hall after rehearsals.
  • Drop off/Pickup for School – For before and after school at regular school start and end times (not a band rehearsal), refer to the drop off and pickup procedures that the school issues.
