From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,
The Tiger Band earned 1st place Class 5A, 1st place Color Guard and 1st place Percussion and a spot in Finals on Saturday at the Capital City Marching Festival.  I'm really proud of how much grit and determination all the performers are showing in the face of the very hot conditions we've performed in for prelims so far.  After cooling down a bit, the Tiger Band put on a very energetic and emotional performance in Finals to earn Overall Champion and Best Percussion. The most important part, to me, is that the students are learning how to approach our performance opportunities with professionalism and passion, along with having a great time with each other.  Thanks as always to Jared Jones and the chaperone team, Tara Ballard and Tanya Conreaux and the food team, the Band Movers and Pit Crew headed up by Logan Lucas and Allison Muth, respectively. And just as important...everyone in the audience supporting the Tiger Band.  The new spirit items were very effective!
This week is Homecoming and PSAT, so there are pretty significant changes to our rehearsal schedule this week.  Please note that there is something going on after school every day this week.  Fortunately, we have the weekend off from competing, so I urge everyone to rest up and get your chores done...starting with TMC on October 14 it gets pretty crazy.  Bandtober, as it's known in the Band World, is a real thing!  But it's so exciting to see the show coming together and the students starting to really perform.  Let's push all the way to the end.  We're going to turn Indiana into a "Fugue State" real soon!
Congratulations to the 6 students who auditioned for the TMEA Region 18 Jazz Bands.

Omar Acosta, Alto Sax 2nd chair Jazz Band One and Area qualifier

James Lamb, Alto Sax 10th chair

Nathan Gibbs, Alto Sax 13th chair

Keegan Ballard, Tenor Trombone, 6th chair Jazz Band Two

Finlay Tiller, Tenor Trombone, 11th chair

Robbie Burns, Tenor Trombone, 15th chair

President's Update

Hey Band!

What a great showing at the Cap City Marching Festival yesterday! Thank you to all of the volunteers for the away game on Friday and the contest yesterday! It takes all of us to make this band so successful!

I hope your students have had a restful day today. This will be a busy week, but at least we have next Saturday free!

  • Be sure to look at the schedule Mr. Woods sent out. The practice schedule is changed from the usual schedule with the Homecoming Parade on Wednesday!
  • Homecoming Parade - Wednesday evening!
  • Football Game- This Friday is Homecoming! We have 35 volunteer spots unfilled, mostly in concessions! Please please please sign up! It's going to be one of the busiest games for the concession stand, and we need a full staff!

Make sure your students are staying on top of schoolwork, getting good sleep, and staying hydrated!

Go Tiger Band!

Band Volunteer? DSISD Registration is Required

As a reminder, all band volunteers need to be registered as a DSISD volunteer with a completed background check on file. This is the same process to register as a classroom volunteer. You are required to register or update your registration every 12 months.

To register with DSISD as a volunteer or to check and see if you're registration is up-to-date, click here: DSISD Volunteer Registration

Percussion/ Pit Crew Update

Thank you to all the volunteers that assisted on Friday night and again on Saturday.  It was a great weekend to support our students.  The upcoming Pit Crew sign up list is full for Friday night’s Homecoming game on 10/6.  Please consider volunteering for Concessions.

For those that are signed-up, names will be submitted to the school and it will be important that you check in at the volunteer station behind the home concession to receive a wristband on Friday evening.  Only those with a wristband can enter the field. It’s Homecoming so security will be very watchful of who enters the field.

In addition, I am working closely with Caryn this week to review volunteer efforts for the Indianapolis trip.  I do have emails from the past few weeks, but if plans have changed or now that you may have finalized travel plans, please provide any updates to percussion@dsbandboosters.org.  We will be finalizing volunteer support this week.

Thanks again for your help with Pit Crew and moving equipment.  See you Friday evening.

Thanks

Allison Muth

Volunteer Central

Thanks to all of our volunteers who served as chaperones, pit crew members and prop pullers this weekend! Our band wouldn't be the grand prize winners that they are without you. Every single one of you is so very appreciated!!

And now, here are a few upcoming *somewhat urgent* ways to serve:

Homecoming Concessions Stands - We have had a record-selling year in concessions so far this season, and we expect an overflowing house for homecoming this Friday. We will need ALL of the help we can get! If you haven't served in concessions yet, this will be a fun night to see what it is all about.

Look for Concessions Stand - Game Night Operations and Remote Drink & Snack Stand in the sign-ups. Sign up here >>  https://signup.com/go/qXHAYBW

Texas Marching Classic - Our next competition is on Saturday, 10/14 at the Kelly Reeves Complex again and we will need plenty of help with Pit Crew, Prop Pullers, Chaperones, and Color Guard Chaperones. Please don't wait to sign up if you can help >> https://signup.com/go/OjQEGJi

Tiger Band Sign-Up Landing Page - As always, you can find ALL of the volunteer needs and spots at this link >> https://signup.com/go/ upuBfCt

Uniform Update - Help Needed

Sewing Group:  We are almost finished cutting the materials and we are getting ready to serge drops and inserts. Once they are completed we will then need people to help cut snap tape, cut velcro strips, sew buttons, as well as sew everything together. We hope to start sewing by Monday, October 2nd. We do need them done and fitted by October 13th. Come join the fun to get these made.

If you have any further questions, please contact us at: uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.

Thank you,

Su Gibbs and Suzanne Gusella

Co-VP Uniform Coordinators

GO TIGER BAND!

Chaperones Needed

Taking care of our 200 kids during contests is a big job and needs a big team! We would love to add a few parents to our group who are willing to spend the day with us. The job isn’t difficult and is mainly just meeting the needs of the kids that may come up that day. In return, you’ll get a front row seat for all of the band action, and you’ll get to know the best kids and parents you’ll ever meet. Join us!

Concessions - Volunteers Needed

We're at the mid-point of the concessions season, and are having a great year - sales after a scrimmage, TITH, and two home games sales are 13% ahead of this time last year, and our next two games are expected to be the biggest of the season.

This Friday 10/6  is Homecoming and then in two weeks on 10/20 Lake Travis will be visiting our stadium.

As of this morning we still need to fill 31 spots for this Friday's game and there are 39 spots to fill for the Lake Travis game.  We will need a full team to handle the crowds for both of these games.  If you have not signed up for your shifts in concessions for this year, please do it today!

HEB Gift Cards Fundraiser Info

Hey Tiger Band! The holidays are fast approaching and they make great gifts! Let’s talk H-E-B cards for a minute!

Each month we have families contributing to Tiger Band just by grocery shopping and filling their gas tanks. If you haven’t signed up, please consider doing so and here’s some math for you to think about .

For us, the family tries to purchase $500 in cards each month. After a few grocery runs and tanks of gas, the amount gets used pretty quickly. That means, at our current discount rate honored by H-E-B, we’ve generated $15 back to the band that month, or $180 each year. We are just 1 of 160 or so families and you can do the math. And if the band were to increase our total monthly order amount to pre-COVID numbers, our discount rate increases as well generating even more for the band. All because I’ve setup a monthly bill pay at my bank using the DSBB PO Box 1522, DS 78620 address and just do my usual shopping.

Thank you for still reading and supporting the Tiger Band!

Laurie Darilek and Jennifer LaRochelle

HEB.cards@gmail.com

To those of you still needing to get started with this fundraiser:

Please take the plunge and get your orders in by the 10th of the month so you can start getting your gift cards and the band can receive increased $$ benefits.

Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures

Going forward, we ask that you follow the following procedures for drop off and pickup.

  •  Drop off for rehearsals – You may use the Driveway Loop to drop off your student, but do not stop or wait. Please pull as far forward (past the first entrance to the loading dock). Be cautious and aware that students will be pushing equipment onto the practice lot.
  • Pickup from any rehearsal or event (football games or contests) – Please park in the parking lot and have your student walk to your car. Do not pickup, stop, or wait in the Driveway Loop. Buses will need to use the Driveway Loop to drop off for events, and students need to use the ramps from the band lot into the Driveway Loop for moving equipment back to the band hall after rehearsals.
  • Drop off/Pickup for School – For before and after school at regular school start and end times (not a band rehearsal), refer to the drop off and pickup procedures that the school issues.
