School starts soon
We have really good momentum going into Week 3 of Summer Band, and with our first performance coming up quickly on Aug. 27th we need to keep that momentum going. Once school starts, your student will have their focus split many different ways with new classes, new building for some, new teachers, etc. Fortunately, they have already forged new friendships and support groups to help each other navigate the newness of getting back to school – let alone being back in person for the first time for many students. Please help your students stay on top of their classwork so that they can continue the awesome work we’ve started. The Student Leadership Team will be setting up Peer Tutoring opportunities for anyone needing assistance. Taking advantage of this opportunity sooner than later is the best way to utilize the experience and knowledge of our older students.

2021-22 Tiger Band and COVID
We are continuing to monitor the situation and will adjust protocols as needed. Students are welcome to use masks at any time, and we are continuing to utilize bell covers on the wind instruments. If your student does come into contact please let me know.

2022 Orlando Trip

Howdy Tiger Band Families!

Thank you to all that volunteered with summer band this week and to all of the families that came out to clean up the concession stands on Saturday! Everyone please take a look at the Sign Up link and sign up for a shift to help with this final week of summer band and the pool party on Friday. All of the activities we do from feeding the band to assisting with uniforms go so much smoother when we have all of the hands needed to carry out the plan.

This week before evening practice Su Gibbs will be fitting freshman for their formal uniforms. She needs two volunteers to assist with pulling the uniform pieces from the uniforms closer for each student. Freshman parents, please sign up for an appointment to have your performer fitted this week!

Uniforms: https://signup.com/go/uMtYrdQ

If your student didn’t have their photo taken during summer registration please email Historian@dsbandboosters.org to set up an appointment this week.

Finally, as Monday evening practices start there is another opportunity to help the band. The directors stay straight after school through evening practices. During that time the they are still working, helping the kids, getting everything ready for practice. Volunteering a meal allows them to stay on campus and continue working with the band. Signup to bring a meal at https://signup.com/go/gGKVZwT For questions contact DSBB Band Director Meal Coordinator: Jenny Lee 512.963.1616 / heartoftx1@yahoo.com

I’ll see all of you at the Pool Party on Friday!

Uniform Update
Sophomore fittings are complete!

Freshmen Fittings and Adjustments – We are starting the Freshman class. We have 52 students and 7 are already done. There are 45 freshmen still waiting. . .but we have night practices all this week and the freshmen will need to be on the field to learn drills and their music. The uniform team cannot take them off the field for fittings. So instead, we are offering appointment times for freshmen before practice this week.

Uniform Appointments will be at the band hall prior to night practices. We will try to get 4-6 students for each session. Please go into Signup to schedule your student’s timeslot so your Freshman student can come in early and get fitted for their marching uniform. Sign up here!
Monday 3:00 – 5:00pm
Tuesday 3:00 – 6:00pm
Wednesday 3:00 – 5:00pm
Thursday 3:00 – 5:00pm
Friday 3:00 – 6:00pm

We also need volunteers that can help with pulling/restocking from inventory, ironing hems and cuffs, fitting shakos and gauntlets for each student. Please sign-up here if you can help. No sewing is needed to help. Sign up here!

Uniform Volunteer Opportunities:

Sewing/ironing group – Sewing is going to be a big part of the performance uniform for drops on the white bibbers. If you are handy with a sewing machine or a serger we would love your help. If you are a wiz at ironing we can also use your help. Sewing days will be announced and all help is welcome.

THANK-Qs
Volunteers – We would like to thank: Hailey Jackson, Kasey Gusella, Marlene Gusella, and Doug Gibbs for all their help in uniform fittings and printing tags for hangers this week. Your time in helping us was very appreciated!
Cubby Keepers – Our 16 positions have been filled! Thank you to all the parents who have signed up. We look forward to working with this team to keep our band looking it’s best at every game and performance this year.

If you have any further questions please contact us at: uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.

Band Movers Update
Greetings!!

Welcome to the new year of marching season! The kids need your help to make this season awesome and you can do that by signing up to help move their equipment! My team consists of moving equipment to, during, and from games and competitions.

Drivers:

The band has 2 trailers that need to be brought to and from away games and competitions. They will each need a driver.
-1 trailer will require a class A CDL. If you have a CDL please let us know.
-1 trailer (non-CDL).

Both driver positions will require paperwork with the district so if you are interested, please reach out soon so we can get that started.

Movers:

Help with loading and unloading of the band trailers with the bands help. Help setup / tear-down pre-game and halftime as needed.

Pit Crew/Props Update
It was a pleasure to meet so many of the DSHS Band parents during registration and talk about the support needed during marching season for Pit Crew and Props. As a reminder we are looking for at least 12 – 15 adult volunteers during football games and 20 – 23 adult volunteers for marching contests. To volunteer for Pit Crew activities please utilize the Sign-Up link. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly with any questions at pitcrew@dsbandboosters.org.

Thanks,
Allison B. Muth
