Hello Tiger Band Family,

What an incredible way to end our 2021 competitive season! Getting to perform once at the UIL 5A State Marching Contest is a goal that many HS Bands never achieve, and then to be selected to perform again in the top 12 Finals of 5A is just an incredible achievement for our Tiger Band performers, parents and staff.   There were several DSISD and DSHS Campus Administrators in attendance on both days at the Alamo Dome - we appreciate your support! Thank you just doesn't seem to be enough to express how truly proud and grateful I am to all the parent volunteers, the Tech Staff, my fellow Band Directors and all the fans that have supported us throughout this incredibly interesting season.   So I'll say it again...THANK YOU!!

Tiger Drumline successful at first appearance at the South Texas Classic Drumline Contest

The Tiger Drumline competed at their first Drumline competition this past Saturday hosted by Brandeis HS in San Antonio.  This was a great opportunity for the Battery and Front Ensemble sections to really show off what they've been working on all season. With the help of Reuben Rodriguez, Nic Rundell and Jimmy LeBrecque, Mr. Ehlers and the Tiger Band Drumline were awarded Best Tenors and 1st Place in their classification.  Way to go Drumline!

Football Playoffs

In case you hadn't heard, our Tiger Football team has had a very successful season and will be moving on to the playoffs. The first playoff game will be at Home against Georgetown HS on Friday, 11/12.  Details can be found on the announcement sheet linked above and below. All Tiger Band students are expected to attend playoff games unless otherwise noted on the Conflict Sheet turned in at Band Registration.  Please be patient as there is no way to prepare more than a week ahead of time for the date and location of these games.

We are hosting a 2A Playoff Game on Thursday, 11/11 and need your help manning the Home side Concession Stand.  And then again on Friday, 11/12 for our Home Playoff Game we'll need to have all hands on deck to accommodate the crowds at the Home and Visitor Concession Stands.  See information below on how to help out!

What's next for the Tiger Band?

The next part of the Tiger Band year will be filled with Football Playoff games, TMEA Region Jazz concert, TMEA Region Orchestra and Band auditions and concerts, and preparing for our very own Holiday Concert.

This marching season has been an adventure, and I'm so glad I got to share it with you and your students!

Announcement Sheet

The weekly announcement sheet will be given to students on Monday during class, and linked here.  Check out the details to see what is happening and what your student needs for the week.

UIL Eligibility

All students participating in an extra-curricular activity must maintain academic eligibility to participate in any competitive event or an event that has opportunities to advance to the next level, such as UIL Solo and Ensemble.  The UIL rule for Concert and Sightreading changed a couple of years ago, eligibility does not affect a student's participation in this event, as there is no competitive aspect or advancement opportunity. Since our Orlando trip is during spring break, eligibility does not affect a student's participation in this event.

President's Update

Congratulations to the Tiger Band for their top 10 finish at the UIL State marching contest, and to Percussion for their 1st place finish at the South Texas Classic Drumline Invitational! Things will slow down a little as we go from marching season to football playoffs and our winter programs, but the band program continues to need your input and involvement.

Monday night at 6:30pm in the band hall we’ll have the monthly band booster meeting. Come join us to learn about the football playoff travel plans, the winter Color Guard season, and our Evening of Jazz fundraiser.  This is a great way to learn more about the band program and help plan events that interest you.  This meeting will be immediately followed by the kick-off planning meeting for the TCGC Color Guard and Percussion contest we will be hosting at the high school on January 29.

Friday night the football team’s first round playoff game will be played at Tiger Stadium, providing us an additional opportunity to raise funds for the band through the concession stand.  The football team won a spectacular game last week, and the crowd coming out to support them this week is expected to be large. Please sign up to help out here: https://signup.com/go/jcvDrvu!

Concessions Stand - Help Needed!

hope everyone has enjoyed a little much deserved downtime following a very demanding AND successful competition season! Now it’s time for the grand finale in the concessions stand – we are hosting Dripping Springs Bi-District game versus Georgetown this Friday and expect another large crowd.

Based on Sign-Up, we have the following needs:

THURSDAY 11/11 **CHANGE**

We’ve been planning to be the neutral site host of a 2A football game on Thursday 11/11, however I was just notified by athletics that the plans have changed and we will NOT host this game.

Thank you to the adult and student volunteers that signed up to help with this game.  We will be removing the positions related to this game from sign-up, however we will still have the prep team meeting on Thursday evening to prepare coleslaw, stock, cut fish, etc. for Friday

FRIDAY 11/12:

We plan to have some help from the Soccer boosters for the visitors side, but still need at least 36 more band boosters volunteers, including three for the cooking area and one for prep.   With the large crowd expected and cooler weather, we’ll need the additional hands for this game to prepare hot chocolate and to man a few remote tables for sales. Please sign up today so that we can organize and make sure that we have this event fully covered.   Please plan to arrive on time or a little early to make sure you can find parking and we can get everyone positioned and ready to go before the gates open at 6:00.

**STAY TUNED** CLEANING AND CLOSING THE CONCESSIONS STAND – in the next few days we will be setting dates and times in sign-up for cleaning equipment, packing, and moving-out of the concessions stand.

Uniform Update

The DSHS band students have had quite a week with a 9th place win at the State UIL, an undefeated football game win at Seguin, and the 1st place win at the Texas Classic Percussion Competition at Brandeis High School on Saturday. We are so proud of each and every one of these students for their accomplishments and excellence in the music field. But we are not done yet. We are still working on playoff game marching uniforms and getting the concert uniforms ready for any and all shows.

Parents: Please be sure to have the following items before our first playoff football game at HOME on Friday, November 12th:

Marching Band uniform - Students need their Grey dri-fit shirt, grey lycra shorts, long black socks, white gloves, and black shoes to wear under their marching uniform. Students with long hair need to make sure they have all items needed to fix their hair appropriately, we might be wearing shakos for the rest of the play off season (hair bands, bun maker, bobby pins, gel, spray, etc.).

Thank you to the following volunteers:

All of our Kubby Keepers for all of the quick cleaning of our uniforms for State competitions and Friday's away game.

Band chaperones for helping us spot and 'Shout" out any messes on their white uniforms at the State Competition.

Kelly Jackson and Marlene Gusella for getting our Seniors plumed for their last home game.

Doug Gibbs for fixing the broken zippers on several of our black bibbers and garment bags.

If you have any further questions, please contact us at: uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.

Thank you,

Pit Crew/Props Update

What an exciting week we have had!  Since last Saturday we have pushed equipment 12 times to get to warm up areas, to stadiums and then back to trailers, and this was not possible without our volunteers.

THANK YOU to all those that have supported the movement of pit crew, props, and podiums during this marching season.  I know that I have learned so much and for those that participated I’m certain you will agree that it was a great way to meet other band parents, share stories of previous years and gain a new perspective of the dedication and commitment our kids make each and every day.

Although our efforts to move equipment is over for now, I encourage each of you to continue to volunteer.

Thanks again for making this a great season!

Thanks,

Allison Muth

Hello Tiger Band Family,

I am SO proud of the way the students performed on and off the field at the BOA Waco Regional on Saturday.  While the results weren't what we were hoping for, I am thankful to all the parents, staff and students for handling the situation with grace and dignity.  As we move into this last week, we want everyone to just enjoy the final few days!!  We will be heading to the UIL State Marching Contest and following the previously sent itinerary for this trip on Monday and Tuesday.  We are still in need of volunteers to help with Pit Crew and Colorguard.

We will travel to Seguin for our final regular season game on 11/5. The Front Ensemble will not be traveling to the game and will follow the schedule for after school rehearsal (see announcement sheet).

In case you hadn't heard, our Tiger Football team has had a very successful season and will be moving on to the playoffs. More details will be coming soon about playoff games. All Tiger Band students are expected to attend playoff games unless otherwise noted on the Conflict Sheet turned in at Band Registration.  Please be patient as there is no way to prepare more than a week ahead of time for the date and location of these games.

On November 6th, the Tiger Band Drumline will be performing for the first time at the South Texas Classic Drumline Invitational at Brandeis HS in San Antonio.  This is a contest very similar to our own Thunder in the Hills.  Non-percussion students are encouraged to come along and support the Tiger Band Drumline.  The itinerary is here. There are only 75 seats available, so first come first served. Non-Percussion students will need to bring a sack lunch for on the bus, $ for a ticket and concession food, show shirt is required.

HEY BAND...we're going to the UIL State Marching Contest in San Antonio!!  The itinerary can be found here.  Please look this over so you know how the day will flow etc. This performance we will be wearing the white performance uniforms, including white band shoes and long plain white socks.  Thank you to the Uniform Team and the Kubby Keepers for the one day turn around on washing the white sleeveless shirts and any other parts that needed it after Saturday. For Monday, students will NOT need their show shirts.  Students WILL need their show shirts for Tuesday.  Please refer to the bottom of the Tuesday portion of the UIL State itinerary for details if we do not make finals. Concessions Stand - Help Needed!

What a crazy night on Friday for the Buda-Johnson game – we sold out of almost everything in the concessions stand!  A big THANK YOU to all of the volunteers that came out and worked!

We’ve had a terrific year in concessions – compared to the same period in 2019 (we’re trying to forget 2020) we are up approximately 30% in sales.  Thanks to the hard work of all volunteers these efforts generate significant financial support for the band.

Please support and cheer on the band as they head to the State competition over the next few days.  It’s an amazing group of kids – I look forward to them truly showcasing their abilities!

AFTER STATE, we will begin planning for one, maybe two last events in concessions.  It looks like we will be hosting Dripping Spring first round playoff game on Friday November 12.  Once playoff details are confirmed we will share this information and open signup for volunteers.

Let’s finish the season strong – at STATE and in concessions!!

Pit Crew/Props Update

A huge THANK YOU to everyone that pitched in for all the activities on Friday and Saturday night.  We couldn’t have done this without you!   A big shout out to the Morton’s and all the volunteers that pitched in and brought food and snacks for the adult volunteers and chaperones to enjoy a wonderful picnic after Prelims in Waco.  A great time to rest and catch up on all the fun we have had this year.

We are at the home stretch and need all hands on deck for Monday, UIL competition in San Antonio.  Because this is UIL, we are able to have many more adult volunteers and you are all needed to assist with props, podiums and pit crew.  Please sign up – we would like to have 35 adult volunteers available to assist with getting the band on and off the field.

Friday’s football game is an away game and the good news is that we do not need adult volunteers that night for Pit Crew or Props.  We will need adult volunteers for the Saturday, 11/6 Percussion contest – please sign up early so we know who will be assisting with equipment.

There's lots of information included in this week's newsletter, please be sure to read ALL of it!

Middle School Band Night

What a great sight to see over 300 Tiger Band students on the field at MS Band Night this past Friday.  The HS students and staff really enjoyed hosting and getting to know the SSMS and DSMS 7th and 8th grade Band Students! Thank you to Ms. Galloway, Mrs. Sayger, Mr. Larson and Mr. Sayger for your cooperation and efforts to get the students to the HS to participate in this annual event.  And a BIG Thank You to all the MS parents who volunteered as chaperones and equipment transporters! And of course, thank you goes to Tim Smith and all the DSHS Booster volunteers who worked so hard to make the event such a success.  We truly could not do any of this without you!

Harlandale game and UIL Area

After serious consideration and discussion with the other Directors, I have asked and received permission from Coach Zimmerman and Angela Gamez for the band to not travel to the Harlandale game this Friday in order to prepare ourselves for a successful UIL Area the next day.  In the event that we do not earn a "1" rating on Tuesday to advance to Area, we will attend the game as originally scheduled.

There are some changes to this week's rehearsal/game attendance schedule, so please read carefully:

Monday, 10/18

7:00 - 8:20am and 6:00 - 8:30pm

Tuesday, 10/19

UIL Region 18 Contest - follow itinerary attached

Wednesday, 10/20

NO REHEARSAL

Thursday, 10/21

7:00 - 8:20am

Friday, 10/22

7:00 - 8:20am and 5:30 - 7:50pm

8:20pm  UIL AREA Parent Preview Performance in stadium

Friday 10/22 schedule will look like this:

- possibly leave props set up for next day in stadium (except for floor tarp)

- put white uniforms on hangers and lay over chairs in band hall to be ready for Area

- Should be gone home before 9:15pm

Announcement Sheet for Week of 10/18-10/23

The weekly announcement sheet will be given to students on Monday during class, linked here and posted on the Tiger Band Family Facebook page.  Check it out for the schedule details and what your students needs to be successful for the week

UIL Region 18 Marching Contest and beyond

The UIL Region contest held on Tuesday, 10/19 at Burger Center in Austin is the first step on the road to the UIL Texas 5A State Marching Contest.  All participating bands who earn an overall rating of "1" (Superior) from the 3 judges will advance to the UIL Area Contest held on Saturday, 10/23 at the PFISD Pfield in Pflugerville, TX.  This contest is a prelims/finals format, the top 10 scoring bands advancing to finals.  The top scoring bands in finals will advance to the UIL State Marching Contest.  The number of bands advancing to State is determined by the number of bands participating in the Area prelims.  With 27 5A bands in our AREA D, the most that could advance is 5 bands; if every band earns a "1" at their Region level contest.  In 2019, 3 bands were advanced from Area D to State.

The itinerary for the UIL Region 18 contest on 10/19 was made available last week, and is linked again here.

This contest has traditionally always been on a Tuesday...this does present even more than the usual challenges for getting enough volunteers to get us to the contest, on and off the field, and back home.  Please, if you can, volunteer in some capacity, even if it's your first time.  WE NEED YOU!  Contact Tim Smith, Mark Glass, Allison Muth, Jessica Glass or Mr. Pearson and we'll get you all set to help out the Tiger Band!

Students will be wearing the white bib pants and white performance jackets.  They must bring their white marching band shoes and long, plain white socks.

If you plan to check out your student after the performance, please be sure to do so IN PERSON with your student's bus chaperone. Uniforms DO NOT GO HOME if you leave early, the uniform goes to the student's section leader to check in for you at school!  We highly encourage you to take your student's instrument home with you, even if it's a sousaphone - if this isn't possible your student is responsible for asking another student to get their instrument unloaded from the trailer and inside the Band Hall. We've had a problem with this recently, and instruments are either left on the trailer or in the band lot or uniforms left on busses.

We also have pretty consistently been having the issue of students not keeping track of their own belongings, or grabbing someone else's belongings.  Please help us train your students to be responsible for their belongings.  THANKS!

UIL Area D Marching Contest

President's Update

Howdy Tiger Band Families!

Thank you all for volunteering at the game on Friday, and coming in earlier to get it done!  The earlier report time for concessions seemed to help get things going and keep them running smooth. The pre-game performance went well too.  Getting on and off the field with the wind was no joke!  Special thanks to the volunteers that helped move everything back to the band hall after the game.

I hope you’ve all had a restful weekend, and want to welcome you to Bandtober! It’s UIL competition time!  Volunteers are needed to help the band take the field at Regional on Tuesday night, Friday night’s practice performance, and at Area on Saturday.  We need 35 volunteers for each contest, and currently only have 21 Tuesday and 13 Saturday.  Please sign up today so we know we’ve got the parent power needed for our performers to take the field in competition!

The following weekend will be a busy one.  We have the final district home football game of the season on Friday, BOA marching competition in Waco Saturday, and then hopefully on to the UIL State competition in San Antonio on Monday-Tuesday to kick off November!  That weekend will be all hands on deck!  Please sign up and take your spot so we are ready!

Thank you for all you do to support the band!

Concessions Stand - Help Needed!

Thank you to all that came out to help in concessions on Friday – I was happy to see a few new faces.  A full staff in the concessions stand makes everything run smoother and we encourage all band families to find a spot to help!

Based on Sign-Up, we have the following needs:

10/29 Game – (Senior Night for Band and Hi-Steppers):

This is our last scheduled home game.  We need at least 24 more workers, including 4 for the cooking area. This is Senior Night for the band, and although many of us with seniors will be working in concessions that evening, we WILL be leaving the concessions stand at halftime to honor these kids. Parents of 9th–11th grade students: please step up and help fill the spots for this game.

REPORT TIME FOR FRIDAY GAMES:

The earlier report time of 6:00 for Friday Concessions has worked well and made a big difference with servicing the lines that begin forming just after 6. I believe this helps sales and provided better service.  We ask that as many people as possible report by 6:00 so that we can make assignments and are ready to go when customers arrive.

Hello Tiger Band Family,

Hello Tiger Band Family,
Wow.  Just Wow.  This Tiger Band has more than lived up to our motto - PRIDE, EXCELLENCE, TRADITION - and doing it with professionalism, maturity, commitment, passion, and most of all heart.  The past week and a half of rehearsals, while not a walk in the park, have been SO productive.  If you've been following the progress of the show I think you can agree that there was a substantial increase in the level of confidence and excellence in both of the students' performances yesterday.  With the strongest performance to date in prelims scoring 83.15, 1st in 5A and 2nd overall, and then a monumental leap in performance quality in finals resulting in a 4 point increase and closing the gap to first place from 7 points to 3 points...I am just SO proud.  While the competitive success is rewarding, it doesn't hold a candle to the grit and determination the students are showing every day.  And I don't think I'm going out on a limb in saying that these students are learning a great life lesson...getting better isn't always easy or painless, but it sure is fun and feels good when it happens!

Thanks as always to the wonderful parent volunteers that help us take care of your students.  I am so glad for the opportunity to get to know all of you better, and I can see why your students are so great, too.  As we all know, I had been out of the picture for a while, and I still have just over a week left on my restriction to work only 25 hours a week.  But that isn't the only reason there are many of you that I either haven't met yet, or know only in passing.  I urge you to make the sacrifice of time and energy on behalf of the Tiger Band, like your kids do, to lend a hand to the small but mighty group of parents that keep us moving down the road, fed, clothed, hydrated, healthy, comforted, and safe.  I realize that may not be easy or painless for you, but it sure is fun and feels good when it happens.  I'm looking forward to working with ALL of you for the rest of the season and the rest of the year!

I would like to thank Mr. Pearson, Ms. Petro, Mr. Ehlers, Ms. Johnson, Mr. Rodriguez and all the Techs for keeping this program moving upward and onward in my absence. Your efforts and dedication have helped me to be able to truly let go and take care of myself in a way that I've never been able to before, so that I can enjoy many more years of leading the Tiger Band.  You're the best!

Hello Tiger Band Family,

The band did great at the Westlake Marching Festival and we are really gearing up for UIL which will be here in just a few days.  Don't forget we have Monday off this week, so Tuesday we have both AM and PM rehearsals.   Also, due to PSAT on Wednesday we will have an after school rehearsal.

This Friday night we will be hosting the Middle School students from Dripping and Sycamore Springs Middle Schools.  We are performing a special halftime show with these students and middle school dance team members, so make sure you are there to see over 350 students performing together!  Due to the middle school performance, we will be performing our contest show at 7:00pm before the game.  Please get there early and cheer us on!!

Announcement Sheet

The weekly announcement sheet will be given to students on Tuesday during class, and linked here.   Check out the details to see what is happening and what your student needs for the week.

This week's rehearsal schedule:

Tuesday, 10/12  7:00-8:20am and 6:00-8:30pm

Wednesday, 10/13  4:45-6:15pm

Thursday, 10/7  7:00-8:20am

Friday, 10/8  7:00-8:20am

UIL Region (next week on Tuesday 10/19)

The itinerary for UIL will be coming very soon.  It is next Tuesday 10/19 at Burger Center, and our performance time is 8:30pm.  Hope you can come out and cheer us on!!

October 15th Grade Check

The 1st Term grade check for UIL eligibility closes this Friday October 15th.  Students who lost eligibility from September 24th can regain at this grade check, but students can also lose who were passing at the last check as well.  In accordance with UIL rules all students must be passing all courses to remain eligible for marching band.  All students who are below 70 are required to attend tutorials daily and have a tutorial slip signed by their teacher.  Ms. Petro is monitoring student grades/tutorials daily to help ensure everyone is passing.  Please work with your students to ensure they get grades in good standing.  It would be a tremendous loss for them to lose eligibility now after all the hard work they have done to get to the competitive season.   To be clear if a child is ineligible starting Oct 1st, they are expected to continue attending rehearsals, but will not be allowed travel to contests, away football games, or home football games.

Rehearsal Make-up policy:

If your student misses a rehearsal for any reason during the week, they must make up all missed time to be eligible for performances.  Students must sign in with a director during make-up time.  Options for make-up include 8:20-8:50 tutorial, 10:31-10:51 Tiger Time, lunch, and after school.   Arrangements can be made in advance if appointments or conflicts are known ahead of time.  Communication with Mr. Pearson is key to preventing problems.

Go Tiger Band!

President's Update

Howdy Tiger Band Families!

Thank you to all of our volunteers that made yesterday a great day for the Tiger Band!  Thank you all for your patience as we worked through the change in travel plans and volunteer requirements, and the loading process for our semi trailer rental.  It is appreciated!

This Friday is a home game and Middle School Band Night!  That means the band’s show performance will take place before the game, so if you’re volunteering on the pit, props, and podiums crew you’ll need to be at the stadium much earlier than usual.

We have less than 50% of the volunteers needed for Friday night, and only have 14 of the 48 volunteers needed in concessions.  Please sign up to help out!  The money we earn in concessions is what lets the band put on a show that includes 12’ streamers and air canons.  It all looks and sounds amazing at contest, but it can’t happen without your help in the concession stand Friday night!

Friday night volunteers, please be sure you enter through the correct gate at the stadium.  The Athletics Department’s policies for the game require all concessions volunteers to enter through the back side of the home concessions stand, and for all volunteers sitting with the band or assisting with the half time performance to enter through the gate behind the visitor concession stand to pick up your wristband. There are no exceptions to this.  Do not try to talk your way past volunteers taking tickets at the other gates to get into the stadium. I’ve talked to multiple gate volunteers that are frustrated by our behavior, and am concerned that we are giving band a bad reputation that will harm our relationships with football and other boosters clubs. Concessions volunteers must enter through the back of the home side concession stand. Chaperones, pit crew, props and podiums movers must all enter through the gate behind the visitor concession stand. Thank you for your help with this.

I’ll see you all at the game on Friday night!

Concessions Stand - Help Needed!

It was great to see a few new/ additional faces in the concessions stand at the homecoming game – a full staff in the concessions stand makes everything run smoother.  We have two more scheduled home games and then maybe playoffs – I encourage all band families to find a spot to help!

Based on Sign-Up, we have the following needs:

This Week’s game (10/15):

We need at least 19 more workers, which includes 3 for the cooking area.  Please sign up NOW so that we know that we have this covered.

10/29 Game – (Senior Night for Band and Hi-Steppers):

We need at least 24 more workers, including 4 for the cooking area. This is Senior Night for the band, and although many of us with seniors will be working in concessions that evening, we WILL be leaving the concessions stand at halftime to honor these kids. Parents of 9th–11th grade students: please step up and help fill the spots for this game.

There are opportunities for all kinds of support.

Uniform Update

We are so happy that the performance jackets have finally arrived and they fit our students wonderfully! They looked GREAT at Saturday's competition at Westlake!

Now it is time for the people who signed up for sewing to gather and sew the drops and cut holes for the feet. This takes a little bit of timing as the students need to train on coordinating the front flap with the music. They will need the jackets for evening practices this week.  We will get this done during the day while the students are in class. Please let me know if you would like to help. We are scheduling for Tuesday and possibly Wednesday.

Parents: Please be sure to have the following items before the next HOME football game on October 15th:

Marching Band uniform - Students need their Grey dri-fit shirt, long black socks, grey lycra shorts, white gloves, and black shoes to wear under their marching uniform. Students with long hair need to make sure they have all items needed to fix their hair appropriately (hair bands, bobby pins, gel, spray, etc.).

Competition Band uniform - Tuesday the 19th is our third competition at the Region 18 UIL Marching Contest at Berger Stadium in Austin. Please make sure to read the weekly announcements for all uniform needs and requirements. Students need their Show Shirt, white dri-fit, grey lycra shorts, long white socks and white band shoes. Their white sleeveless-shirt is with their jackets in the band hall.

Post registration orders - We are still waiting on your items that have been ordered, but it will take some time to receive as these items are made-to-order. It will be a few weeks for delivery. If you have loaned/borrowed items, please continue to wear them until we notify you of delivery. You must bring back your loaned items to exchange for new ones.

Uniform Volunteer Opportunities:

Sewing group - Jackets have arrived and we will be sewing the drops on this Tuesday and Wednesday during classes. Please send us an email this week if you're ready on a moment's notice to sew the drops.

Kubby Keepers - Parents, are there any more of you who would like to be added to our Kubby Keepers team? With two sets of uniforms that need cleaning, we need at least 6 more parents to lighten the load. We also need a quick turn-around as we have competition on Tuesday night and Saturday (19th and the 23rd) and football games for the next 4 Fridays.  What a great volunteer opportunity for those who work during the day but can come after the game/show and wash, dry, and deliver the uniforms back into the cubbies. Please email us if you are interested.

THANK YOU to the following volunteers for their time and skills:

Doug Gibbs for fixing one of our ironing boards that recently broke.

Jessica Glass for cutting out 150 drops for our performance jackets and Lydia Smith, Katie Parmeson and Jessica for serging the edges to get them ready.

Jane Jacobs, Jessica Glass, and Ashley Lovelace for coming to the band hall to cut, iron and sew 16 new 20' banners for the show.

Marlene Gusella for being my second Uniforms coordinator this weekend by coming in to help cut, hem, sew uniforms, and help inspect the band's complete uniform for this Saturday's Westlake competition.

I hope everyone had a chance to rest and enjoy the off week this weekend!  We have a Thursday night away football game and a Saturday contest in Round Rock with an early prelim performance time.  Please sign up to volunteer as chaperones and to be part of the pit/prop/mover crew so we can continue to support our performers as the show improves and evolves.  Check for the sign up links at the top of the newsletter and sign up today!

In addition to our fundraiser events that you’ve all heard about, there are ways to raise money for the band as you shop.  Our HEB cards fundraiser gets you a gift card that you can use for groceries and gas at HEB and Central Market.  You order and receive a gift card for a specific amount, and HEB makes a donation to the band that’s based on the amount of your gift card order.  It’s an easy way to support the band as you shop at HEB throughout the month.  Be sure to get your order in for this month by October 9!

The Band Boosters are also a recognized organization in the Amazon Smile program. When you go to https://smile.amazon.com and place an order the organization you’ve chosen receives a donation from Amazon that’s based on the amount of your purchase.  Please select the Dripping Springs Band Boosters as the organization you choose to support with your purchases.

Thank you all for your help and support of the band program!  I’ll see you at the game on Thursday!

Hello Tiger Band Family,

So proud of the Tiger Band!! We performed at our first marching contest since November of 2019.  It was just special to share the field again!!  The band had a great performance in prelims placing 1st in Visual for class 3A.  The band also placed 3rd overall in class 3A!  This week's schedule is not our regular rehearsal pattern, so pay attention to the rehearsal schedule below. Don't forget tomorrow the kids don't have school, but we do have an evening rehearsal in the stadium on Monday.  We also have our off week, so no football this week!

This week's rehearsal schedule:

Monday, 9/27

5:00-8:30pm (Stadium, White Dri-Fit)

Wednesday, 9/29

4:45-6:15pm

Thursday, 9/30

7:00-8:20am

Friday, 10/1

UIL Eligibility

The 6 week grading period closed on Friday 9/24/21.  Any student that was not passing will lose eligibility effective this Friday 10/1/21 at 4:15pm.  The 1st Term grade check for UIL eligibility is Friday October 15th.  Students who lost eligibility from September 24th can regain at this grade check, but students can also lose who were passing at the last check as well.  Any student who regains eligibility based on 10/15 grades can start participating at 4:15 on Friday 10/22/21.

All students who are below 70 are required to attend tutorials daily and have a tutorial slip signed by their teacher.  Ms. Petro is monitoring student grades/tutorials daily to help ensure everyone is passing. To be clear if a child is ineligible after next Friday, they are expected to continue attending rehearsals, but will not be allowed travel to contests, away football games, or home football games.

Pearson is key to preventing problems.\

President's Update

Howdy Tiger Band Families!

Welcome to the off week!  Enjoy the coming weekend before we get into a very busy October.

Thank you to everyone that volunteered behind the scenes, in concessions, chaperones, pit/props/podiums, uniforms, or movers.  This week we it took everyone to get the band to the football game and contest and I want to thank you all for your help!  You ROCKED! Getting props into the show means we’ll need more help at games and contests, so sign up to help if you’ll be at the games and contests.

This week with the help of the wrestling booster club we had our first fully staffed concession stands! Talk to your friends that were in there working.  Yes, they were busy, but it’s a much calmer and collected environment with a full crew when everyone is able to focus on their job instead of doing two things at once.  If you haven’t worked a shift yet please sign up to help with two of the remaining games.

Remember, the Spirit Store closes tonight!  Get your orders in so you’ll have your Tiger Band swag for the final performances of the season!  Order at https://stores.inksoft.com/dshsband/shop/home .

From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,
Thank you so much for the well wishes and MealTrain meals. It's very nice to know that you're all pulling for me!

Thanks also to all the volunteers that helped prepare and put on the Thunder in the Hills event yesterday.  By all reports, the day ran very smoothly!  The participants and audience were thrilled to get to put on live performances.

I look forward to being released by my Neurosurgeon to return to work, possibly as soon as Saturday for the BOA N. Houston contest.

Hello Tiger Band Family,

It has been another busy week, and now we are headed into contest season this weekend!! Huge thanks to Mark Glass for such a great job on Thunder in the Hills this past weekend.  It was awesome having over 800 students on our campus doing band again!!  This week is homecoming so our rehearsal schedule is a bit switched up, see below.  Also don't forget that we are doing our show after the game on Friday night, so please plan to stick around and cheer us on before we head to BOA Houston on Saturday!

Announcement Sheet

The weekly announcement sheet will be given to students on Monday during class, and linked here.  Check out the details to see what is happening and what your student needs for the week.  BOA Houston Itinerary is a separate document, and you can find that information below.

This week's rehearsal schedule:

Monday, 9/20

7:00-8:20am and 6:00-8:30pm

Wednesday, 9/22

7:00-8:20am

Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally 4:45pm (Informal Uniform)

Thursday, 9/23

4:45-6:15pm

Friday, 9/24

7:00-8:20am and 4:40-5:20

*Don't forget we will perform our show after the game*

BOA Houston

This weekend is our first Marching Contest of the year!!  The itinerary for Saturday can be found here.   Please look this over so you know how the day will flow etc.  This performance we will be wearing white pants, so students will need their white shoesfor the first time.  Keep in mind the check out procedure if your child is not riding the bus home.  Uniforms DO NOT GO HOME if you leave early, your uniform goes to their section leader to check in for you at school!

Pro Tips for Parents about watching performances

-Flash photography (flashes of any kind) are not allowed during performances because they can be hazardous to performers.

-Recording is not allowed due to copyright laws, but some contest offer video purchasing.

-Anything cool deserves applause, not just the awesome DSHS Tiger Band, so clap and cheer on all the hard working students throughout the day.

-Cheering is great at the beginning and end of a show, but can be disruptive during a performance.  Be careful of your volume as an audience member.

-Don't talk negatively about other programs while at a competition, you never know who might be able to hear you!  We share the stands with parents, students, and instructors for other schools and organizations.

-Arrive at least 20 minutes before the performance time! You will need time to park, enter, and find a seat.  You won't be able to enter or exit the stands while another group is performing.

September 24th Grade Check

The 6 week grade check for UIL eligibility closes this Friday September 24th. To be clear if a child is ineligible after next Friday, they are expected to continue attending rehearsals, but will not be allowed travel to contests, away football games, or home football games.

Rehearsal Make-up policy:

If your student misses a rehearsal for any reason during the week, they must make up all missed time to be eligible for performances. Students must sign in with a director during make-up time.  Options for make up include 8:20-8:50 tutorial, 10:31-10:51 Tiger Time, lunch, and after school.   Arrangements can be made in advance if appointments or conflicts are known ahead of time.  Communication with Mr. Pearson is key to preventing problems.

President's Update

Howdy, Tiger Band families, and welcome to the heart of marching season!  This week is all hands on deck to help in concessions Friday night and Pit Crew and Prop movers Saturday in Houston. The football game on Friday is Homecoming, our busiest night of the year in concessions.  It is critical that we are 100% staffed for this game in order for things to run smoothly.  If you’ve been waiting to sign up for one of your 2 required shifts, get signed up for this week!  We need you! Only 11 of 40 needed volunteers are signed up, and the folks have worked concession both home games this season.

Saturday's performance at BOA Houston will be the band's first timed performance. For parents that haven’t been to a contest before, the band has 15 minutes for their performance that’s broken down into 5 minutes to get on the field and set up, 8 minutes to perform, and 2 minutes to get on the field.  The 7 minutes getting on and off the field are where we absolutely have to have adult volunteers.  We will help the kids push props, podiums, and pit equipment into position and finish setup they get ready to perform, and then race to get everything off the field in time.  If we don’t get off the field in time the band’s rating is dropped by a full division.  There’s no way we can compete if we don’t have 100% of the volunteers needed to get equipment moved for the performance.  Sign up today!

Bonus Opportunity for Volunteers! There are 35 seats available for boosters to ride with the band to and from Houston on Saturday. Instead of driving yourself you can sit back and relax to and from the contest.  The seats cost $25 each, and are available only to boosters that have signed up to help with the contest.  Sign up at https://signup.com/go/vkFeoaf and email president@dsbandboosters.org to reserve your spot!

If you're attending the contest Saturday please be sure to read Mr. Pearson's pro tips for watching performances.  There are a few specifics for the Tiger Band Family.  First, wear your show shirt if you've got one!  This helps us find one another in the stands.  Second, we cheer for the ensemble, not individual students. As the band is preparing to perform don't shout out your performer.  Once the band is set and just before they're announced the crowd in the stands will shout "Go Tiger Band!" The unity of the cheer in that moment of calm is a huge boost for our students to let know we're all there for them.

Finally, Thunder in the Hills was a huge success yesterday!  Thank you to all the students and parents that came out an made the event happen. All the adults that stayed to work extra shifts where we were short on adult volunteers rocked it! Every director I spoke with on the field said they were happy to be there and this was always one of the best events because of our volunteers.  Special thanks to our area lead volunteers: Diana and Lloyd Perry (former band parents that came back to help out!), Tara Ballard, Mr. Adams, Su Gibbs, Gina Bisett, Kevin Smith, Allison Muth, all of our directors, and especially Mark Glass for his fantastic work as event chair!

See you in the concession stands on Friday. Sign up today!

Concessions Stand - Help Needed!

Thanks again to all of the parent and student volunteers that came out to work concessions for TITH yesterday!  It was a long busy day, but we all got through it.

Based on Sign-Up, we have the following needs for this week’s HOMECOMING GAME -

We STILL need 21 workers, including one for the cooking area.  We have not had a full team for either of our first two games, which makes it very difficult for those that are working.   Please sign up NOW so that we know that we have this covered.

REPORT TIME FOR FRIDAY GAMES -

Uniform Update

Parents: Please be sure to have the following items before the next HOME football game on September 24th (A gym bag really helps to keep all their personal uniform pieces and shoes together so they can grab and go on game days):

Marching Band uniform - Students need the Grey dri-fit shirt, long black socks, grey lycra shorts, and black shoes to wear under their marching uniform. Students with long hair need to make sure they have all items needed to fix their hair appropriately (hair bands, bobby pins, gel, spray, etc.).

Competition Band uniform - Saturday is our first competition at BOA North Houston. Please make sure to read the weekly announcements for all uniform needs and requirements. Students will need their Show Shirt, grey lycra shorts, long white socks and white band shoes. Depending on whether we get performance jackets or not, be prepared to have the grey dri-fit in case we have to wear the marching jackets; otherwise we will have their white no-sleeved shirt in the band hall.

White Shoes - Ordered shoes arrived this week and were handed out to all students. I will be in the band hall Monday morning (9/20)  from 8-9am to check fittings. If the shoes are not fitting your student they must bring them in so we can try an exchange prior to Saturday, but I need the shoes to be absolutely clean (walked on carpet or clean floors, not outside). If we cannot get them back in time, I do have some white shoes to loan out until the new shoes arrive.

For the people who ordered after registration: Your items have been ordered but it will take some time to receive as these items are made-to-order. It will be a few weeks for delivery. If you have loaned/borrowed items, please continue to wear them until we notify you of delivery. You must bring back your loaned items to exchange for new ones.

Uniform Volunteer Opportunities:

Sewing group - The material for the competition drops has been cut and serged, but we can't sew until we get the performance jackets. Please send us an email this week if you can be on a moment's notice for sewing the drops. I have 2 people signed up so far.

Kubby Keepers - Are there any more parents who would like to be added to our Kubby Keepers team? With two sets of uniforms that need cleaning, we are looking for at least 8 more parents to lighten the load.  This is a great volunteer opportunity for those who work during the day but can come after the game/show and wash, dry, and deliver the uniforms back into the cubbies. Please email us if you are interested.

Thank you to the Uniform Kubby Keepers for doing a bang-up job and a quick turnaround for band pictures this week. You Rock!

From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,

It has been a very busy week, but I'm happy to report the Tiger Band students and parents once again rose to the occasion!  Thank you to everyone for you understanding as we adjust to the absence of Mr. Woods for the next few weeks.  The band performed Parts 1-3 of the show in full uniform on Friday at the game.  It was so great so see the uniforms out on the field again for the first time since 2019!! Thanks to all the uniform moms, pit/prop crew, and concession stands volunteers for helping make things run so smoothly!  As we move forward with Mr. Woods, please contact Mr. Pearson for all attendance related matters for marching band.

Announcement Sheet

Starting this week the weekly announcement sheet given to students on Monday during class, will be linked here.  Check out the details to see what is happening and what your student needs for the week.

Thunder in the Hills 2021

Our 12th annual Thunder in the Hills Drumline Contest is this Saturday, September 18th. We have a full contest of 28 units participating, the most ever!  We will need all hands on deck to make sure this contest runs smoothly and is a positive experience for the performers, staff, and audience.  Please plan to volunteer for at least one shift.  All Tiger Band students will get their job assignments on Monday.  The schedule and assignments will be posted on the window outside Mr. Pearson's office. Don't forget about the student volunteer meeting the Band Hall on Thursday 9/16 at 4:45pm.  Contact Mark Glass operations@dsbandboosters.org or Matt Ehlers matthew.ehlers@dsisdtx.usfor more information or to volunteer!

Homecoming is next week and the schedule is different

Homecoming is set for Friday September 24th and the week is filled with exciting events! The Tiger Band will participate in the Homecoming parade and Community Pep Rally on Wednesday on 9/22.  Due to homecoming activities at half time, the Tiger Band will perform a post game show, so please plan to stay and cheer us on.  This will be our first performance with props, front drops, and dress rehearsal run to prepare for the BOA Houston contest the next day!!!

September 24th Grade Check

The 6 week grade check for UIL eligibility closes on Friday September 24th. To be clear if a child is ineligible after next Friday, they are expected to continue attending rehearsals, but will not be allowed travel to contests, away football games, or home football games.

Rehearsal Make-up policy:

On Friday 9/10 we reviewed the rehearsal make-up policy with all students.

Howdy Tiger Band Families!

I know Mr. Woods has been in everyone's thoughts this week.  He was released from the hospital on Saturday and is recovering at home.  His recovery is progressing quicker than expected, but it will still be several weeks before he returns to campus. A meal train has been set up to organize our efforts to support Mr. Woods recovery.  If you'd like to help out with a meal please sign up at https://mealtrain.com/e1n64e .

Thank you to the amazing parents that volunteered at this week’s home game! There are two meetings tomorrow open to everyone interested. We have a Thunder in the Hills meeting at 5:30p.m. in the band hall (or one of the classrooms at the end of the directors’ offices/practice room hallway if the band hall is in use for Monday practice).  This will be followed at 6:30 by the monthly boosters meeting. Come out, learn about the programs coming up and where you can get involved!

We need Pit Crew and Movers to help at Friday’s away game.  For Thunder in the Hills we have volunteer spots throughout the day in parking, concessions, ticket sales, and registration.  Please sign up using the links above to help out.

Finally, why do we need everyone to help with Football concessions, Thunder in the Hills, and An Evening of Jazz (our spring fundraiser event)? All of our volunteering is important, and it's easier to see how some jobs like Kubby Keepers, Uniforms, Chaperones, Pit Crew impact the bands ability to travel and perform. These three fundraisers bring in $70,000. Without your help with them we cannot run these fundraisers, which would result in the participation fee increasing by $450 for each student to keep the band program at its current level of excellence. Please sign up to contribute to the band program’s success and keep the cost of participation from going up.

I hope to see all of you at the boosters meeting tomorrow evening.

Concessions Stand - Help Needed!

Thank you to our volunteers that have worked our first two home football games. These games have been well attended and the concessions sales have been great, however we’ve been short of volunteers for both games, which makes for longer lines and a more hectic environment for the workers that we do have.

Based on Sign-Up, we have the following needs for the next two events:

TITH - Saturday 9/18:  We need workers for the 5:00 - 8:00 Dinner / Cleanup shift.

HOMECOMING GAME - Friday 9/24: We still need 21 workers, including two for the cooking area.  This will be a very busy event, so we need a full team - please sign up NOW.

Also we’ve noticed that customers are lined up and ready before we are ready to serve…I’ll be changing the report time for Friday Concessions Help from 6:30 to 6:00, and ask that as many as possible report by 6:00 so that we can get organized and ready to go.

Thank you – Go Tiger Band!

Thunder in the Hills Update

Thunder in the Hills is an annual percussion competition that the DS band hosts. This year it will be on 9/18 and there are 28 drum lines signed up to compete. This is all day event that requires all the help we can get. Students are required to volunteer for at least one shift(more details later). Adults can sign up here https://signup.com/go/UywWALb. There are opportunities for all kinds of support.

There is a required student volunteer meeting on 9/16 at 4:45pm.

All volunteer shirts that were purchased will be sent home with students on Thursday or Friday.

Uniform Update

Parents: Please be sure to have the following items before the next AWAY football game on September 17th (We suggest that students have a gym bag to keep all their personal uniform pieces and shoes together so they can grab and go on game days):

Marching Band uniform - Students need the Grey dri-fit shirt, long black socks, grey lycra shorts, and black shoes to wear under their marching uniform. Students with long hair need to make sure they have all items needed to fix their hair appropriately (hair bands, bobby pins, gel, spray, etc.).

White gloves that were ordered at registration and NOT given to the students at registration have been distributed to all students - symphonic and concert bands during class on 9/9 and wind ensemble in class on the morning of 9/10. All students who received their gloves at registration verified they had the purchased numbers of gloves at home. We fulfilled the order for a few students who received only part of their glove order at registration. 100% of students have received their entire order of gloves. The students may contact a band director for all future needs to be able to purchase more as needed.

White Shoes - We are still waiting for the white shoes to come in. Once they are ALL in, the directors will announce in class when they can be picked up.  The delay for delivery is based on the company's stock limits and delivery from suppliers. We are not the only band waiting for shoes.

White sleeveless shirts - The white sleeveless shirt Mr. Woods ordered for the band students has arrived. We decided that the uniform group will keep these shirts with the student's performance jacket and bibbers. They will be washed with the uniform after each performance. At the end of marching season the student may keep the shirt.

For the people who ordered after registration: Your items have been ordered but it will take some time to receive as these items are made-to-order, so it will be a few weeks to get them. If you have loaned/borrowed items, please continue to wear them until we notify you of delivery. You will need to bring back your loaned items to exchange for your new ones.

Uniform Volunteer Opportunities:

Sewing group - The material for the competition drops has been cut and serged, but we can't sew until we get the performance jackets. Please send us an email this week if you can be on a moment's notice for sewing these drops on when the time comes.

Kubby Keepers - Are there any more parents who would like to be added to our Kubby Keepers team? With two sets of uniforms that need cleaning, we are looking for at least 8 more parents to lighten the load.  This is a great volunteer opportunity for those who work during the day but can come after the game/show and wash, dry and deliver the uniforms back into the cubbies. Please email us if you are interested.

Thank you Marlene Gusella, Lidia Smith, and Katie Parmeson for your sewing and serging help with the various drops this past week.

Also, a big Thank You to our newly formed Student Uniform Team who did an excellent job of distributing and gathering the uniforms for your first formal game!

If you have any further questions, please contact us at: uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.

Thank you,

Su Gibbs and Suzanne Gusella

Pit Crew/Props Update

What a great turn-out on Friday for the Pit Crew and Podiums.  It was a success even as we made adjustments for a few new pieces of equipment!  I will be working to add more spots on the Sign-up page, however, if the sign-up list is full, please send me an email so I can add you.  The more volunteers - the better - especially as we continue to build the show with more equipment and props.  I encourage everyone to sign up by Tuesday so I can make sure that I have plenty of badges for the group.  This week is an away game so I will send updates as we learn more about entry into the stadium for Canyon High School.

President's Update

Howdy Tiger Band Families!

The first home game was a lot of fun!  Thanks for everyone that volunteered… all of your ROCK! The band sounded great from the concession stand, where we still need your help! This week we had long lines on both sides of the stadium because we didn’t have the volunteers needed to run all of the cash registers.  Please sign up to help at the home game this week and Thunder in the Hills next week!  If you don’t want to run a register you can help wrap burgers, pour fountain drinks, or fetch orders as they come in.  We’ve got a spot for you I guarantee it!

If you ordered a show shirt and haven’t gotten it yet, they will be coming home with students last week.  I’ve been trying to pass them out on Mondays after practice to avoid cutting in to practice time, but the first contest is coming up quick and that’s when we’ll all wear our shirts.

I’ll see you all in the concession stand on Friday!

Friday 9/24 – 15 of 54 spots filled

We also have concessions spots that need to be filled for the 9/18 Thunder in the Hills event.

We need volunteers to sign up for these events now so that we can plan how we will operate. If you have not done so, please sign-up for at least a few shifts in the concessions stand during the football season.

Uniform Volunteer Opportunities:

Sewing/ironing group - The material for the competition drops has arrived. Once we get the strips cut, we will send out a Group Sign-up for volunteers to help us sew these colorful drops. Please keep an eye out for a time to come in and sew with us.  Sewing is a big part of the performance uniform for drops on the jackets. If you are handy with a sewing machine or a serger we would love your help. We can even show you how.

Thank you Christy Neffendorf for donating an extra rack for the uniform room. It has been very well used in getting all the students fitted.

Band Movers Update

Howdy Tiger Band Families!!

The season is off to a great start!! Thank you to the families who volunteered to transport and move band equipment so far.

We are currently missing our semi-truck, so we will need to rely on parent drivers until we have that situation resolved.  If you have experience pulling a trailer and want to help out in the coming weeks, please reach out so we can get you setup with the district.  No CDL required.

This coming Saturday morning, 9/11, we will be practicing loading, unloading, and moving all gear and field props.  This will help us prepare for road games and contests.   Please come out so you can get a feel for what we will need while travelling with the full setup.  Knowing the basics will help a lot for competitions later in the season when we are on the clock to get the trucks unloaded and loaded.

Link to loading day: https://signup.com/go/ZrghkOZ

Please contact Daniel Jennings to confirm your spot with our upcoming road warrior work so we can ensure our students get their gear to the upcoming events: bandmovers@dsbandboosters.org:

Friday the 17th is a road game.

Saturday the 25th is our first competition in Houston.

Pit Crew/Props Update

A huge THANK YOU to the volunteers that helped with Pit Crew on Friday!  It was a great success and I am looking forward to this week’s upcoming HOME game.  The schedule will be the same and I encourage everyone to sign up by Tuesday so we have plenty of time to submit names to DSISD for free entry into the game.  It does seem that our help will also be needed with getting equipment back to the band hall – my apologies for not being fully aware of all the support we need to provide - we are still learning 😊

If anyone is still interested in purchasing a Pit Crew grey t-shirt – let me know – it’s a great way to show your Band Spirit and indicate yourself as a volunteer during half-time.  Please text me at 713.256.3028 with shirt size and qty.  Payment can be made to Allison-Muth-6 @ Venmo.

Thanks again for your support and please don’t forget to sign up for the Saturday, September 11th – prop / trailer practice.  This will be our first view of the props that we will begin to move for the half time show.

See everyone Friday!

8/29/21

From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,

What a joy it was to see the Tiger Band students having so much fun together at the first Away Game in 2 years.  I had several Football parents/fans comment on how engaged in the game they were!  I also received an email from a gentleman from Bandera, TX about how impressed he was with the band's performance at half-time.  I'm very proud of the Tiger Band!

What's up for this week!

Our first Home Game of the season is this Friday, Sept. 3rd.  Please see the Announcement Sheet for details.  This will be another Informal Uniform performance.  There were some students that didn't have the correct shorts, Polo, socks or belt for various reasons.  Please be sure that your student has all of the correct uniform parts...this first game was a freebie...students without the correct parts will not be permitted to perform at half-time moving forward.  Also, even though this is a Home Game with no buses to contend with, Please do NOT sit in your vehicle in the bus loop, park in the parking lot to wait for your student after the game.

Thunder in the Hills 2021

Our 11th annual Thunder in the Hills Drumline Contest is September 18th.  We have a full contest of 30 units participating, the most ever!  We will need all hands on deck to make sure this contest runs smoothly and is a positive experience for the performers, staff, and audience.  Please plan to volunteer for at least one shift.  All Tiger Band students are expected to volunteer for at least one shift, too.  Many students sign up for multiple shifts because it's a fun day and they get Community Service hours for their time.  Contact Mark Glass operations@dsbandboosters.org or Matt Ehlers matt.ehlers@dsisdtx.us for more information.

White Dri Fit T-Shirt

Due to a design change in the Performance Top, a plain white sleeveless 100% cotton shirt must be worn under the Performance Top for contests.  This shirt will be provided to each Wind and Percussion student.  Colorguard and DPE do NOT need one.  Monday night rehearsal shirt will be the WHITE dri fit until further notice.

Informal Uniform

The Informal Uniform of Grey Polo, Black shorts with black belt, black marching shoes with no show or ankle height black socks.  Please do NOT substitute any of the items with something "close".  Contact Su Gibbs if your student is missing any of the above items.

Rehearsal Schedule adjustment

Somehow I missed that Monday, Sept. 27th is a student holiday.  We will NOT have a morning rehearsal that day, but we WILL have rehearsal starting at 5:00pm - 8:30pm. No morning rehearsal on Tuesday, Sept. 28th.  Please be sure to change this on your calendars and be prepared to get your student to rehearsal by 4:45.  Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for your flexibility.

President's Update

Howdy Tiger Band Families!

Thank you to everyone that helped the band get to this week’s game! In addition to everyone that had signed up there were several families that jumped in to help with loading and unloading and with the halftime performance.  THANK YOU all for recognizing the need and jumping in to help.

You’ll see a common theme in this week’s newsletters.  We need you to recognize the need and jump in to help!  Concessions and pit crew/props/podiums are our biggest volunteer needs, and where your repeated help will improve our ability to get the band through a halftime performance and keep the lines moving at concessions.  We’re running concessions the next three weeks and need every one of those spots filled.  Please sign up for a couple of spots in concessions and on the pit crew!  I’ll see you in the concession stand on Friday!

This year we will be selling volunteer shirts for us to wear the day of the event. The design isn’t finalized but they are available for pre-order here.  Note: These will only be available via pre-order. If you don’t order now you can still buy one of the standard event shirts.

We are also looking for business sponsors to support the event. Sponsor packages range from $50 to $300. It’s an excellent way to support the band and advertise your business at the same time. If you own a business, or know someone who does, and want to support please fill out this form.

Uniform Update

Informal Uniforms:  Informal uniforms that were ordered at Registration were handed out in class on Friday August 20th.

Backordered pieces that were not delivered on the 20th were delivered this past week on the 26th.

Black shoes arrived August 26th at the end of the school day. Everyone should have received the black shoes they ordered. White shoes may not come in until after Labor Day.

If your student was missing any item(s) that they ordered or found out that last year's uniform doesn't fit, please send us an email. We can make some exchanges, but we will have to place another order.

Parents: Please be sure to have the following items before the next home football game on September 3rd - black belt and black no-show socks for their informal uniform. We suggest that students have a gym bag to keep all their informal uniform and shoes together so they can grab and go on game days.

You will also need long black socks and grey lycra shorts for marching and long white socks and grey lycra shorts for performance. It is suggested to get a couple of pairs for consecutive performance days.

If you have any further questions, please contact us at: uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.

Thank you,

Su Gibbs and Suzanne Gusella
Co-VP Uniform Coordinators

Band Sponsors Needed

Corporate sponsorship of the entire band program is another outstanding way to support the band and has some great benefits including recognition on the band website and Facebook page. The deadline to have a banner at the football game concession stands is quickly approaching. You can find more information on sponsorship levels here and here.

Pit Crew/Props Update

A huge THANK YOU to the parents that assisted with Pit Crew at the 1st away game in Kerrville.  We learned a lot and truly appreciated everyone’s patience and stepping in to help – not only during half time, but also to unload the equipment and assist with getting everything in place for warm-up.

This week will be our 1st Home Game and we still have a few spots left to fill. We certainly need at least 12 people to assist with Pit Crew equipment and 5 more folks to support the movers with Podiums.  No word yet on props.  If you would like to assist, please sign up early (by Tuesday) so I can submit your names to DSISD and ensure your entry into the Stadium.

I will send out reminds thru Group Me (21-22 DSHS Pit Crew /Props) and will add those that have already signed up.

Thank you again for your support.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.
