Uniform Update

Founders Day Parade - April 22

Founders Day Parade is this Friday, April 22nd. ALL students will need their Informal Uniform (grey polo, black shorts, black belt, black hat, black shoes, and no-show black socks).  Parents/students please make sure all your clothing items are clean and ready.

There are a few pairs of black shoes in the Lost & Found again after the UIL Concert and Sight Reading contest. Please check that you have your uniform and equipment together so that there are no delays in getting ready for shows or contests. This is also a great time to make sure that everything fits properly for Friday's parade.

Band Items Needed for next fall season and Donation Items

The time is quickly coming up for our high school band camps in May, June and July. Mr. Woods has already confirmed that the band's grey polos, grey and white dri-fit shirts, and black shorts will be the same style for next fall. Please inventory what fits and doesn't fit your student so that when July registration happens you only order what you need. This makes the registration process run smoother and helps you reduce your band budget.

If it doesn't fit, consider donating band uniform items back to the band hall. Donations are always accepted, but please do not send used gloves or socks. Donations can be placed in a box/bag and either handed to a director or placed by the uniform door (not by the Lost & Found).

  • polo band shirts (grey only)
  • white or grey dri-fit shirts (DSHS logos and no stains)
  • shoes (back and white)
  • black shorts
  • belts

A huge thank you goes out to our Kubby Keepers for their time in getting concert uniforms washed after a week's worth of concerts and contests earlier this month.  YOU GUYS WASH!!

If you have any further questions, please contact us at: uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.

Thank you,

President's Update

Howdy Tiger Band Families!

The annual booster meeting will be held Monday, April 18 at 7pm, and the primary agenda item is the election of the booster board and area lead volunteers for 2022-23.

Thank you to all that have reached out asking about volunteering to lead an area. The slate of volunteers isn't final, and co-leads are welcome in many areas to help ensure each area has the volunteers needed.

Summer Band is still critical! We need this position filled to efficiently support our performers as they kick off the new marching season.

Treasurers for the middle schools are also must fill seats because without them we're not able to update bank account signers, and that leads to delays in purchases for the marching season.

Thank you to everyone that has signed up to help!

The full list of open positions with brief descriptions is below. Please email me if you’re willing to serve in one of these positions in the coming year or have questions about what would be involved in a position.

Summer Band Lead — Organize volunteers for first aid, meal/snack serving, water setup and other stations needed during summer band practice.

VP Membership — Work with the Summer Band Lead to ensure all families are registered with all forms complete, and maintain email lists in the tool used for communication with band families.

VP Operations — Work with the Booster president to ensure all current activities are progressing and help resolve any issues that may be impacting an activity.

DSMS Treasurer — track fundraiser income and work with DSMS directors on band equipment purchases.
SSMS Treasurer — track fundraiser income and work with SSMS directors on band equipment purchases.
DSMS Liaison — Meet with DSMS directors to determine how MS boosters can support their program needs and organize volunteers.

Thank you for your support of the Tiger Band program and thank you in advance for your help ensuring the boosters continue to support the band and give our performers every opportunity to excel that we can.

Congratulations and thank you to Ms. Petro and Mr. Pearson for leading their ensembles so successfully, and to Mr. Ehlers for all his support and input with the Percussion students and the ensembles as a whole. I'm a very proud Director of Bands!

President's Update

Howdy Tiger Band Families!

The annual booster meeting will be held Monday, April 18 at 7pm, and the primary agenda item is the election of the booster board and area lead volunteers for 2022-23.

Volunteers are needed to step up to be the point of contact for an area. Summer Band is critical! We need this position filled to efficiently support our performers as they kick of the new marching season. The middle school treasurers are also must fill seats because without them we're not able to update bank account signers, and that leads to delays in purchases for the marching season. Thank you to everyone that has signed up to help!

The full list of open positions with brief descriptions is below. Please email me if you’re willing to serve in one of these positions in the coming year or have questions about what would be involved in a position.

Summer Band Lead — Organize volunteers for first aid, meal/snack serving, water setup and other stations needed during summer band practice.

Band Snacks Lead — Prepare snack bags for band members for football games, marching contests, and other events throughout the year.

VP Operations — Work with the Booster president to ensure all current activities are progressing and help resolve any issues that may be impacting an activity.

Thank you for your support of the Tiger Band program and thank you in advance for your help ensuring the boosters continue to support the band and give our performers every opportunity to excel that we can.

Go Tiger Band!

Temple College Jazz Festival

Congratulations to the DSHS Maroon Jazz Orchestra!  On Saturday they performed at the Temple College Jazz Festival and received straight division 1 ratings from all 3 judges.  Outstanding soloist awards were given to Danny Nolan, Jace Byrd, Nathan Crutchfield, and Matthew Sheeler!!  Great job by these soloists and the band overall.  You can come to catch the SSMS Jazz Band, DSHS Gold Jazz Orchestra, and DSHS Maroon Orchestra for our final performance of the year at our Spring Concert on Tuesday, April 5th in the DSHS PAC.  The concert begins at 6:30pm!

Uniform Update

Founders Day Parade - April 22

Founders Day Parade is coming up on April 22nd. ALL students will need their Informal Uniform (grey polo shirt, black shorts, black belt, black hat, black shoes, and no-show black socks).  Parents/students please make sure to have all of your clothing items clean and ready.

Band Items Needed for 2022/23 and Donation Items

Mr. Woods has confirmed that the band's grey polos, white and grey dri-fit shirts, and black shorts will be the same style for next fall. Please inventory what fits and doesn't fit your student so that when July registration happens you only order what you need. This will make the registration process run smoother.

Donations of clean band shirts, polos (grey only), shoes, and shorts are always accepted if you are clearing out your closets. Please do not send used gloves or socks. Donations can be placed in a box/bag and either handed to a director or placed by the uniform door (not by the Lost & Found).

Hello Tiger Band Family,
Thank you for attending our Pre-UIL concerts this past week. Practicing performing is an important aspect in the development of a well-rounded musician.  The opportunities to practice performing are more spread out in the 2nd semester than the 1st, so each opportunity is important.  I'm very pleased with the progress of all our student musicians, and proud of the guidance provided by Mr. Pearson, Ms. Petro and Mr. Ehlers.  Next week's UIL performances promise to be very accomplished, and the chance to make music together in a formal setting is something that we are all cherishing these days.

Donations of clean band shirts, polos (grey only), shoes, and shorts are always accepted if you are clearing out your closets. Please do not send used gloves or socks. Donations can be placed in a box/bag and either handed to a director or placed by the uniform door (not by the lost and found).

If you have any further questions, please contact us at: uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.

From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,
Last minute Disney Trip details:

- Please be sure to fill out the Disney Contact Info form if you haven't already done so.  This will allow your Chaperones to make their contact groups before we leave. You can access the form at this link: Disney Contact Info form

- On the TMF Itinerary, the arrival flight information for Group #2 is incorrect. It should read: American Airlines Flight #2707 arrives at 9:41pm at Austin Bergstrom.  The time on the itinerary is correct, but the airline and flight # are not.

- Don't forget to have already set your clocks forward 1 hour for Daylight Savings Time if you haven't already.  Wouldn't want anyone getting up too late to get to the school on time!

I do want to reiterate for all students and parents that the DSISD Code of Conduct for Athletic/Extra-Curricular Activities will be strictly enforced.  I have already heard rumors of fake ID's and other paraphernalia being brought on the trip.  I expect ALL students and adults on this trip to be vigilant and honest: if you see or know of any activity or choices being made that would put anyone in danger, it is your obligation to report it to a chaperone or Director.  The integrity of the Tiger Band is in your hands.

TCGC Area West contest: March 19th at Johnson HS in Buda, TX

The DSHS Winterguard will compete to qualify for the TCGC State Championships at this contest.  The performance time will be after 2:30pm.

Parent Preview Performances by the Cadet and DSHS Winterguards will be on Friday, March 25th between 6:00-7:30pm in the DSHS Comp Gym.  This is a great time to come out and support our colorguard performers!

Wind Ensemble clinic with Mr. Floyd: Monday, March 21st 4:45-6:45pm

All Wind Ensemble students will be attending this clinic with Mr. Floyd at the DSHS Band Hall.

DSHS Pre-UIL Concerts: March 22nd and March 24th, 6:30pm in DSHS Auditorium

The Concert Band and Symphonic Band will perform on March 22nd, the Wind Ensemble will perform on March 24th.  Dress will be the Concert uniforms with long black socks and black band shoes.

UIL Concert and Sightreading Performances: March 29th and 30th at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center

March 29th - The Concert Band performs at 1:00pm and the Symphonic Band at 5:05pm

March 30th - The Wind Ensemble performs at 2:45pm

These performances are open to the public, we'd love to have you join us to support the students' hard work.

President's Update

Howdy Tiger Band Families!

Whether you’re headed to Orlando with the band or off on another adventure, I hope everyone has a chance to enjoy spring break.

Our annual booster meeting to elect volunteer leads is a little over a month away. I’m looking for volunteers to be the point of contact for several areas. Summer Band and Band Meals are the most critical to make sure we can get our kids ready for the coming marching season. If you have any friends that have middle school band students, please ask them to consider serving as the Treasurer for their middle school's band boosters. We need middle school treasurers to avoid delays in updating bank account paperwork that would lead to delays in the band being able to pay contest registration fees and uniform items.  The full list of open positions is below. Please email me if you’re willing to serve in one of these positions in the coming year or have questions about what would be involved in a position.

From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,
Disney Trip information meeting:  Thursday, March 10th at 6:30pm in the Band Hall

All participants on the Disney Trip will meet to receive all the trip information, including final itinerary, flight information, rules and expectations for adults and students. Our TMF Representative Keith Lancaster will be there to help answer any questions. As a reminder, the trip dates are Monday, March 14th through Friday, March 18th. There are 3 flight groups getting us to and from Orlando.  All the groups are leaving between 6:30am and 8:20am. Return times are between 9:41pm and 10:50pm. I am not real comfortable making this information public, so if you need to know prior to next Thursday's meeting what flight group and time your student is assigned send me an email and I'll get that info to you.  I'm working with our Transportation Department to provide bus transportation to and from the Austin airport.  We will all have to be at the airport by 3:30am, so plan on meeting at the DSHS Band Hall really early on Monday, 3/14. We'll meet and all get to the Austin airport via the provided buses.  Please do not ask to do something different than what will be planned for all.  Please plan on these instruments as carry-on luggage, which means these students will be allowed to have only one personal item in addition to their instrument - Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, Alto Sax, Trumpet.  If your student's instrument is not listed there, we will have the band trailer available to get your instrument to the airport.  We will provide the band trailer to get large instruments from the airport to DSHS upon return.

Suggested packing list: Clothing for 4 days including a jacket or sweatshirt, comfortable shoes for walking, swimsuit (Universal waterpark an option on Tuesday), sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, drawstring bag for other items you may want while in the park, money for souvenirs or extra food.  Meal cards will be given out for each day, students should plan to use all the money on the cards as you can't get the unused money back.

Disney Trip Band rehearsal: Thursday, March 10th at 7:00-8:20am in DSHS Band Hall

This rehearsal is for all Woodwind, Brass and Percussion students going on the trip to prepare for our Universal performance clinic.  This rehearsal is required.

The DSHS Winterguard competed successfully at the WGI Austin Regional held at Glenn HS in Leander, TX this weekend.  Yesterday’s prelims contest included 31 units grouped into 2 rounds with our Winterguard earning a score of 78.71 for 8th place in Round 1 and qualifying as one of the top 16 scoring units moving on to Finals. Today the DSHS Winterguard earned 13th place overall with a score of 79.65.  Having started the season with a 66.11, this shows incredible growth over the past 5 weeks.  Congratulations and keep up the great work!

From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,
I hope that you were able to attend at least part of the Evening of Jazz this past Friday at DS Ranch Park!  It was such a great night of music, camaraderie and fun!  Congratulations to Ms. Galloway and the combined SSMS/DSMS Jazz Band on a really fun performance, helped along by some of our Private Lesson Teachers and even a couple of parent performers!  And both DSHS Jazz Orchestra groups, led by Ms. Petro and Mr. Pearson, were really swingin' that night. There were so many great soloists featured throughout the night, but I think my favorite part was the very last song when several MS students joined in with the combined DSHS groups to form a veritable Conga Line of soloists to close the concert.  I am very proud of all the students and teachers that prepared such an invigorating performance for us to enjoy.  And don't forget about Michael Rutherford who led his amazing team of volunteers in planning and presenting this great event.  Thank you to all of you!

DSHS Varsity and Cadet Winterguards

The Cadet Guard has competed 3 times this season, most recently yesterday at the TCGC contest hosted by Georgetown HS.  These 10 MS students between 6th and 8th grade rehearse once a week for 90 minutes, and their score increased more than 10 pts over their last performance.  Their competitive season will conclude on March 19th at Johnson HS in Buda, TX.  Thank you, Mallory Alton, Sarah Johnson and the Varsity Colorguard members for their great work with this group.  We're looking forward to welcoming them into the Tiger Band soon!

The Varsity Winterguard continues to work hard on their 2022 show entitled "The Machine", with a more than 8-point jump in score over their last performance.  Coming up this weekend they will be competing at the WGI Austin Regional held at Glenn HS in Leander, TX.  Go Tiger Guard!

All participants on the Disney Trip will meet to receive all the trip information, including final itinerary, flight information, rules and expectations for adults and students. Howdy Tiger Band Families!

It was great to see everyone at An Evening of Jazz! My thanks to all of your performers that were in the jazz orchestras for providing great entertainment for us.  I want to thank Michael Rutherford for organizing the event, Tara Ballard and Christy Neffendorf for putting together an amazing silent auction, Gina Bisett for once again organizing check-in and silent auction checkout, and all of the parents and students that helped setup and run the event.  Thank you!

Certificates for service hours will be available to students from the directors this week. If you have a question about a silent auction item, please email SilentAuction@dsbandboosters.org and President@dsbandboosters.org.

While the list of volunteers that will be point of contact for different areas in the 2022-23 year is coming together, there are still several areas where I need someone that will be that point of contact and coordinate the activity in that area. This is one of our most important fundraisers, and we need your volunteer help.  Thank you to Michael Rutherford for leading the event preparation this year!

Percussion Update

It was another great week for the Dripping Springs Percussion students as the DSMS, SSMS and DSHS students displayed their talent at the Percussion Concert – Thursday, 2/17 in the DSHS auditorium.  It was a fabulous event that featured guest Artist, Nick Werth and highlighted the Outstanding Performers: Noah Scarbrough, Evan Murphy, Anton Miller-Thomas, and Parker Hoffman.

In addition, we have officially kicked off a “Marimba” campaign to support the purchase of a 5-Octave Marimba that will expand the percussion equipment for the current year and for future DSISD percussion students.  Please follow the link to "Lend a Mallet”:

https://dripping-springs-band-boosters.snwbll.com/ticketing/marimba-magic

In addition, I’m looking for a few volunteers to assist with a DSMS/SSMS percussion parent meeting on March 3rd at 6:00pm in the DSHS Band Hall to answer questions and provide an overview of the volunteer opportunities.  Let me know if you are interested.

Thank you

Allison Muth

Uniform Update

UIL State Representation

Congratulations to our seven State musicians that attended UIL. You all looked great in your uniforms, and you represented our school well.  Thank you for returning your uniforms to the uniform room so promptly.

The Disney World Band Trip is only three weeks away!

On March 10th there is a mandatory trip meeting in the band hall with TMF to get the itinerary and ask questions for all band students and parents that are going. Please put this date on your calendar to attend. Now is a good time to start gathering items you may need for the trip (i.e., shorts, shirts, swimsuits, appropriate shoes, sunscreen). Please try not to overpack. Mr. Woods has already asked attendees for their shirt sizes. If you are going and have not heard from Mr. Woods about this, please reach out to him in an email right away.

Band Donations Accepted

Donations of clean band shirts, polos (grey only), shoes, and shorts are always accepted if you are clearing out closets. Please do not send used gloves or socks. Donations can be placed in a box/bag and either handed to a director or placed by the uniform door (not by the lost and found).  Students will still need black shoes, bike shorts and gray dri-fits for the upcoming concerts and UIL contests in the spring. Informal uniforms will still be needed for events such as the Founders Day parade in April.

If you have any further questions, please contact us at: uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.

Thank you,

Su Gibbs and Suzanne Gusella

Co-VP Uniform Coordinators

Uniform Update

Black and White Shoes in Lost and Found Area

As mentioned before, we have noticed a couple of pairs of black band shoes and one pair of white band shoes in the lost and found. When the bookcase is cleaned out, we will take these shoes into the uniform room as donations to be used as loaners. Please make sure that your students have all of their black and white marching shoes. To help keep track of these shoes we advise students to put their initials on either the inside rim of the shoes or under the tongue. This makes it easier to quickly find their owners. We have silver markers in the uniform room if you need to mark your shoes.

Band Donations Accepted

Donations of clean band shirts, polos, shoes and shorts are always accepted if you are clearing out closets. Please do not send used gloves or socks. With all of the shortages getting stuff this past fall most of our extras were depleted. Donations can be placed in a box/bag and either handed to a director or placed by the uniform door (not by the lost and found).  Students will still need black shoes, bike shorts and gray dri-fits for the upcoming concerts and UIL contests in the spring. Informal uniforms will still be needed for events such as the March band trip and the Founders Day parade in April.

Thank you to Reid's Dry Cleaners for their excellent job of getting our white bibbers and marching jackets cleaned over the holiday break.

If you have any further questions, please contact us at: uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.
