Uniform Update

Founder's Day Parade - this Friday, April 26

Founder's Day Parade will be April 26th (depending on weather). All students will need their Informal uniform (black shorts, grey polo, black shoes, black belt, and black no-show socks (not crew)), We haven't worn Informal since the Homecoming Parade in October and April 26th is a day off from school.  If your current items do not fit, please contact Mrs. Gusella or Mrs. Gibbs to be refitted prior to the event.

Spring Concert - May 20

The Spring Concert will be May 20th at 6:30pm in the Auditorium. Students need to be ready to wear their Concert uniform. So, they must have their lycra grey shorts, grey dri-fit or short sleeved t-shirt, long black socks and black band shoes.

Please check that you have your uniform and equipment together so that there are no delays in getting ready for shows or parades. A gym bag helps to keep your clean stuff ready. This is also a great time to make sure that everything fits.

Uniform Needs for Next Fall Season

The time is quickly coming up for our high school band camps in June and July. Please inventory what fits and doesn't fit your student so that when July registration happens you only order what you need. This makes the registration process run smoother and helps you reduce your band expenses.

If you have any further questions, please contact us at: uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.

Thank you,

Su Gibbs and Suzanne Gusella

Dessert Social at the Jazz Concert

On Tuesday, April 2nd, DSHS Tiger Band will be hosting a dessert social in the courtyard - auditorium lobby if raining - during and after the combined MS and HS Jazz Concert. We hope all jazz and non-jazz families will attend to support our jazz bands and enjoy an evening of lively music.

Please join us for some refreshments and welcome our middle school families. This will be a great opportunity for them to learn about the life skills and lifelong friendships that our students develop by being part of the DSHS Tiger Band. Please be on the lookout for a volunteer signup for both adults and students as we will need help with setup and cleanup.

From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,

Now that we're all rejuvenated after Spring Break, I'm really looking forward to all the bands digging into the UIL music, and the Varsity Winterguard looking ahead to their TCGC Area and State performances.

Congratulations to the JV Winterguard on an awesome season, capped off with a really strong performance at the TCGC State contest at Moe and Gene Johnson HS for the JVSRA classification. Their performance earned the Bronze Medal in the Blue Round, with a score of 78.86! The JV Winterguard, made up of students from the fall guard, and students who are either new to the guard program or wind players that just really love to perform. With such a wide range of skill level, Mr. Vereen and Mary have done a great job providing the JV performers with the performance, equipment and movement skills they needed for a fun and successful season. I am so proud of all the JV performers!

Important! Butter Braid Delivery this Thursday!

Butter Braid Delivery this Thursday!

It’s Butter Braid delivery week!  If your student sold any items through our Butter Braid fundraiser, you or your student must meet me in the Band Hall right after school this Thursday, the 21st, to pick up their items for delivery.

Remember that the items can only be left unfrozen for a total of two hours, so they either need to be delivered or put in your freezer at home within that time.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Butter Braids Fundraiser - Final Week

Back by popular demand -- the annual Butter Braids fundraiser! This week is the final week so get your orders in!

We are only taking online orders this year.  Kids sign up to sell using this link: https://store.myfundraisingplace.com/RegisterSeller/70a425b1-6d53-4cf3-b90e-652a24c979df

Once your student does that, they'll get an email from "My Fundraising Place" with a link to their store that you can share with friends and family.

Word of caution: you'll be delivering these orders, so don't share the link with people to whom you aren't willing to travel  -- if your high school best friend in Seattle buys a set of frozen sticky buns from your kid's link, you'll be taking a fun trip to the Northwest with a cooler of pastry.

Kids -- or their parents -- MUST pick up the items they sold immediately after school on Thursday, March 21st.  Then, the products must be either delivered or put into your family's freezer right away; the products absolutely cannot be left unfrozen.  If that is not a commitment your family can make, that's totally okay, but please do not participate in the fundraiser.

As always, let me know if you've got questions, concerns, or random thoughts about fundraising!

Senior Photos Needed! DUE by Spring Break

Hi senior parents! I am working on the senior books and this is the last week to get me your senior photos! I really want to make sure I get your child in the book!!

Please send in pictures of your kiddos from freshman to senior year to nicolermoore@yahoo.com. They must be high resolution, no screenshots or texted images please- they will turn out fuzzy. If you can tell me your students name and what year for each picture so I will know how to group them I’d appreciate it.  Most have sent separate emails for each year for their child and I have gotten anywhere from 3 pictures of each year to 30 pictures of each year. I’ll use them the best I can.

I really need these by spring break so that I’ll have time to get the book all together. Thank you SO MUCH for your help with this!

From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,
I hope that you were able to catch the DSISD Percussion Concert on Friday - it was an incredible display of the hard work and dedication of all the Percussion students grades 6-12 from all 3 campuses. Mr. Ehlers, Mr. Demetriou and Mr. Morales are doing a wonderful job at creating a culture of inclusivity, diversity and excellence through Percussion at all levels. It was a truly delightful evening.
UIL Solo and Ensemble went very well on Saturday, our Tiger Band Woodwind and Brass students performed really well and earned 106 1st Division, 19 2nd Division and 3 3rd Division ratings. 17 students performed at Class 1 solo from memory and qualified for UIL State, along with all 5 ensembles. Overall it was a great day of music making for the Tiger Band.
I had a parent ask me on Saturday - what is the purpose of Solo and Ensemble? That is a great question... A public solo performance with or without an accompanist satisfies several TEA Music TEKS. This is a big reason why all students are required to prepare and perform a solo in order to continue in the Tiger Band program for the next year. It is also an opportunity for each student to develop their musicianship skills as an individual, rather than just through the large ensemble setting like Marching or Concert Band. Each performer receives specific feedback regarding their preparation and performance in the form of comments from the judge, in addition to their rating. Uniforms - Lost and Found

Lost and Found Concern:  There are 7 pairs of black shoes and 4 pairs of white shoes that have been in the lost and found since December. Ask your student(s) to check on their black shoes. They will need them for the Pre-UIL concert March 6th and the UIL Concert and Sight Reading contest at the end of March.

GO TIGER BAND!

Percussion Update

What a great percussion concert on Friday!  Thank you to all that came to watch the students perform.  It is so exciting to see how much the percussion program has grown.

Be sure to put the following dates on your calendar:

  • March 1st – Ryan and Blake will be performing with their band at Hudson’s on Mercer St. @8pm
  • March 5th – parent meeting at 6:30pm in the DSHS Band hall – this is for 8th grade thru 11th grade parents
  • March 15th – Percussion Night at Hudson’s on Mercer St.

Lastly, if you are interested in becoming the Percussion liaison – please reach out to myself or Caryn Pacelli as we are looking to have this position filled in April to begin orientation on this role.

Thanks

Senior Photos Needed! DUE by Spring Break

Hi senior parents! I have started working on the senior books and I still need your photos! I have received pictures for 11 out of the 35 seniors.

Zips Car Wash Fundraiser - ENDS THURSDAY

Our Zips Car wash Fundraiser is LIVE!!!  From now until March 1st, you, your friends, and your family can buy a car wash from our Dripping Springs Zips Car wash location and a full 50% of the cost of the wash will go straight to our Tiger Band!

Here's how it works:

1) Buy the wash from our Zips link: https://wlink.live/2024_drippingsprings

2) Zips will immediately send you a QR code for your car wash via email and text

3) Scan the QR Code when you get to the kiosk at the carwash

The car washes you buy are good for a full 10 months after purchase -- that means you can buy a ton, because your car is going to get dirty several times between now and Thanksgiving!

What the band needs from you:

1) Buy 10 months' worth of car washes for your family  -- that's a lot of car washes.

2) Buy some car washes and gift them to people, because who doesn't love a carwash?

3) Send the link out to your friends and neighbors; they're going to get their cars washed at Zips anyway, so they may as well support the band while they're at it (don't forget to tell them that the washes are good for 10 months!)

4) Share our Zips fundraiser graphic on your social media

The proceeds of this fundraiser will go straight to helping pay for the new end of the year Band Ball for our kids, so it's a cause we all want to support!

If you have any questions, please always reach out!

It's Back! Butter Braids Fundraiser

Back by popular demand -- the annual Butter Braids fundraiser!  I'll be popping in to all the band classes on Monday to talk to the kids, but here is everything you need to know:
