Steve Sauerwein – Saxophone

Steve Sauerwein is Adjunct Professor of Saxophone and Clarinet at Austin Community College as well as a freelance musician in the Austin area.  Born and raised in Arkansas, Steve was in the Arkansas All-State first band for three years and was Arkansas’ representative to the McDonald’s All-American Band and Jazz Band in 1981.  Following high school, Steve studied music education and saxophone at the University of North Texas.  In 1985, he was one of four students chosen to represent UNT in the 1985 All-American College Presidential Inaugural Band. 

After graduation from the University of North Texas, Steve was a band director in the Dallas metroplex (29 years) and Director of Instrumental Music at the First United Methodist Church in Rowlett, Texas (15 years).  While teaching, he continued to perform professionally making appearances with Barry Manilow, Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, The Temptations, The O’Jays, Frank Gorshen, Marvin Hamlisch, Patti Paige, Frankie Avalon and the Dallas Wind Symphony.  Currently Steve continues to perform with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra as well as with numerous Austin bands and artists.  He has three children (Kevin, Andrew and Katelynn) and lives in Dripping Springs with his wife and number one supporter, DSE 4th grade teacher, Stacy Sauerwein.
