Thomas Ly – Trombone

Thomas Ly is an active performer and music educator based in Austin, Texas. Recently, he was named as one of the competition winners of the 2023 Emory Remington Trombone Choir Competition where he and the University of Texas at Austin Trombone Choir will be traveling to the International Trombone Festival in Salt Lake City to showcase a concert. Thomas has also performed at high demand, including a residency in Zurich, Switzerland, and as a substitute section trombone with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and Opera, substitute bass trombone for the Meridian Symphony Orchestra, and as a pit musician for the Natchez Opera Festival. He has also participated in summer orchestral institutes such as the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra in Branson, Missouri and the Berlin Opera Academy in Berlin, Germany. 

Thomas also holds the same passion for teaching. He currently serves as a private low brass instructor at a number of schools in Austin ISD including Kealing Middle School, Clint Small Middle School, and Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders. During his undergraduate studies at the University of Southern Mississippi, Thomas had a studio of private trombone/euphonium students who not only earned placements in the Mississippi All-State Lion’s Band, but as well as receiving competitive music scholarships from a variety of universities.
