This week’s color guard schedule:

  • Varsity Practice - November 28 & 30 - 5-8 pm
  • JV Practice - November 27 & 29 - 5-8 pm
  • Dec 2- Training camp day

JV - 9am - 1pm

Color guard is also having a lock-in on December 8. We need two parents to chaperone. Please let Mr. Vereen know if you are available.

Uniform Update

Another Congratulations to our football team on winning their playoff game on Saturday!

But we are not done yet...

Reminder for the parents that took students home from Saturday's game. If they brought their uniforms home with them: wash the pieces in cold water and tumble dry low. It works better if you turn the jacket inside out to avoid damaging the buttons and hearing the loud clanking noises they make (you can also throw in the gauntlets and garment bags in the wash together). Your student knows how they must be folded on the hangers and placed in the garment bag. Please have them return their uniform by Monday morning.

4th Playoff Game at the Alamodome on Saturday, December 2nd:  Students will be wearing their Football Uniform. They will need their grey lycra bike shorts, grey dri-fit, black and white gloves*, long black socks, and black shoes. Hair at the discretion of the directors. Make sure to have  flip folders and lyres.

* Mr. Woods has requested that gloves will be required for the remainder of the season for instruments requiring them on the field (white on the right hand and black on the left hand).

Winter Concert on Monday, December 11th:  Students will be wearing their Concert Uniform. They will need their grey lycra bike shorts, grey dri-fit,long blacksocks, and black shoes.

Thank you,

Concessions Clean-up - Help Needed

Another successful fall band season is wrapping up which means it’s time to clean-up and move our equipment and supplies out of the concessions stand.  We are planning a two step process.

Sat 12/2 morning - Drain fryers, clean equipment, and power wash cooking areas.

Sat 12/9 morning - Move-out and cleanup the concessions stand to turn over to Soccer for their winter season.

We don’t anticipate hosting any additional games and want to schedule the cleanup as soon as possible to avoid holiday festivities and the school break.

Please sign-up so that we know that we have the help needed to knock the job out >> Volunteer Sign-up

**On 12/2 a second power washer would be very helpful, and on 12/9 we’ll need a vehicle that can move one of the trailers.

TCGC Contest Pageantry in the Springs - January 27, 2024

The DSHS Tiger Band hosts one of the biggest, best, and earliest Texas Color Guard Circuit (TCGC) competitions in the state with over 75 Percussion and Color Guard performing ensembles. Check the list below to see what’s still needed in terms of lead people. A volunteer sign-up for adults and students will go out in January.

Judges Hospitality is the area most in need of leadership right now. This is a great job for someone (or two) who enjoys practicing hospitality: coordinating meal menus (for judges & staff) with local restaurants, making the lounge look nice and inviting, and being a general “host/hostess with the mostess.” The judges and staff really look forward to and appreciate our efforts in this area so let’s keep it up!

Concessions - Thank You!

What an amazing marching season for the Tiger Band, and we are so proud of all you have accomplished. While the band was away, parents not traveling to Indianapolis stepped up and made sure our playoff game was a huge success.

Thank you to all the parent volunteers who braved the dark and misty night, watched BOA announcements on phones and laptops, and served countless cups of hot cocoa. Your hard work is the reason we are successful, and we are thankful for your time and support!

Go Tiger Band!!

HEB Gift Cards Fundraiser Info

Hey Tiger Band! The holidays are fast approaching and they make great gifts! Let’s talk H-E-B cards for a minute!

Each month we have families contributing to Tiger Band just by grocery shopping and filling their gas tanks. If you haven’t signed up, please consider doing so and here’s some math for you to think about .

For us, the family tries to purchase $500 in cards each month. After a few grocery runs and tanks of gas, the amount gets used pretty quickly. That means, at our current discount rate honored by H-E-B, we’ve generated $15 back to the band that month, or $180 each year. We are just 1 of 160 or so families and you can do the math. And if the band were to increase our total monthly order amount to pre-COVID numbers, our discount rate increases as well generating even more for the band. All because I’ve setup a monthly bill pay at my bank using the DSBB PO Box 1522, DS 78620 address and just do my usual shopping.

Thank you for still reading and supporting the Tiger Band!

To those of you still needing to get started with this fundraiser:

Please take the plunge and get your orders in by the 10th of the month so you can start getting your gift cards and the band can receive increased $$ benefits.

All Parents Must Fill This Out - DSISD Registration is Required

We have had a few instances where parent volunteers have not registered with DSISD and completed the background check. They were not allowed to volunteer. Please complete this step if you have not done so already!

As a reminder, all band volunteers need to be registered as a DSISD volunteer with a completed background check on file. This is the same process to register as a classroom volunteer. You are required to register or update your registration every 12 months.

To register with DSISD as a volunteer or to check and see if you're registration is up-to-date, click here: DSISD Volunteer Registration

Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures

Going forward, we ask that you follow the following procedures for drop off and pickup.

  •  Drop off for rehearsals – You may use the Driveway Loop to drop off your student, but do not stop or wait. Please pull as far forward (past the first entrance to the loading dock). Be cautious and aware that students will be pushing equipment onto the practice lot.
  • Pickup from any rehearsal or event (football games or contests) – Please park in the parking lot and have your student walk to your car. Do not pickup, stop, or wait in the Driveway Loop. Buses will need to use the Driveway Loop to drop off for events, and students need to use the ramps from the band lot into the Driveway Loop for moving equipment back to the band hall after rehearsals.
  • Drop off/Pickup for School – For before and after school at regular school start and end times (not a band rehearsal), refer to the drop off and pickup procedures that the school issues.

From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,
How exciting that our BOA trip to Indianapolis is finally upon us.  I'm so proud of the students for their dedication to excellence - they are rehearsing with focus and determination and are still getting better and better.  I hope you were able to see the evidence of that in the performance at halftime this past Friday. The Seniors and Parents that were recognized are such a huge part of the Tiger Band success, on and off the field.  Thank you to all of you for your commitment and camaraderie throughout the past 4 years. We love you!
Please join us on Monday, 11/6 at 8:00pm in Tiger Stadium for our final Texas performances of FUGUE STATE. Bring your friends and family to help celebrate an amazing season with 2 performances of this year's show.  We won't be in uniform, as we need them clean for our trip, but that won't diminish the excitement and passion of the performers!

Rehearsal Schedule for this week:

Monday       7:00-8:20am Full Band

6:00-8:00pm  Full Band

8:00-8:30pm Send Off performances

Football Playoff Games: The Tiger Football team has advanced to the Playoffs.  We will miss the first Playoff Game while we’re in Indianapolis.  The Playoff Game schedule is determined week to week based on the outcome of the game.  The Tiger Band will attend all the Playoff Games, including those during Thanksgiving and Holiday breaks.  All Tiger Band students are expected to attend.

TMEA Region Band Auditions: All Wind Ensemble students and any others that are interested will participate.  Depending on your instrument, you will audition on Thursday, 11/30 and/or Saturday, 12/2 at Westlake HS. Audition fee is $12 and must be paid through the RevTrack DSHS Online Store by 11/15.

Holiday Concert: Monday, December 11th at 6:30pm in the DSHS Auditorium.  Symphonic and Concert Bands will have 2-3 morning rehearsals with their percussionists to prepare for the concert.

Message from the School Nurse - IMPORTANT!!

Hello Awesome Band/Colorguard Parents!

Our AMAZING trip to the Grand Nationals in Indianapolis is fast approaching.   I was a Band Mom for many years and I am so excited to have the opportunity to go along as the Nurse (yes, even riding on the bus); I will be taking care of all medication on the trip.

IF your child takes ANY prescription medication that needs to be given on the trip, you must get the attached form filled out by their doctor (unless we have a permission form on file for the current school year) and returned to me along with the medication, no later than November 6,2023.

If your child takes medication, and you are going on the bus, you may carry and give them the medication without having to fill out any forms.

Urgent Need - 11/3 Concessions Volunteers

We have our last scheduled home game this Friday 11/3 and need to make sure that the concessions stand is fully staffed. This will be Senior Night for band students, and they will be recognized along with their parents. We owe it to the parents with Seniors in the band to take on the responsibility of running the concessions stand for this game so that they can participate and celebrate with their students.

11/10 Playoff Game:

Drip is expected to host its first playoff game on 11/10. With the Grand Nationals trip, many of our parents will be in Indianapolis, so we desperately need parents that will not be traveling with the band to volunteer for concessions for this game.

We have solicited some support from outside groups (at a cost to the band) and we will slim down the menu (no catfish for this game), etc., but we need as many band parents as possible that will not be traveling with the band to help with this game. We need everyone to sign up by 10/30 so that we know what support we have and can appropriately plan for this event.

We need to finish strong, so please do your part to support the Band Boosters largest fund-raising activity.

From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,
WOW!  How cool is it to be named the 2023 BOA Waco Regional Champions!  I'm SO proud of how the students, parents and staff navigated all the chaos and uncertainty the weather turned warm-up into...especially the students.  They were troopers the whole time, not a single complaint. They showed real maturity, professionalism and grit through the whole process.  And it obviously paid off.
And now, off to UIL 6A State Marching Band Championships! The weather will have turned quite a bit colder than we're used to (at least it's not 104 anymore, right?) so please make sure your student is prepared accordingly. The Alamodome is climate controlled to 72 degrees, but should your student want to wear a long sleeved shirt or leggings under the uniform that is ok.  Sweatpants or jeans are not acceptable.  Should we make Finals, the itinerary includes that information too.
Due to the possibility of making finals and mostly due to the predicted temperature on Wednesday morning, I have moved the Wednesday, 11/1 rehearsal to the afternoon from 5-7pm.  Please make every effort to eliminate conflicts, but I do understand there may be a truly unavoidable issue. Thursday and Friday will be regular schedule

Percussion/ Pit Crew Update

It’s been a pretty exciting weekend –  Thank you all for your continuous support and flexibility as we dodged the rain storms both Friday and especially Saturday in Waco.  My shoes have almost dried out – just in time to put them back on to support our kids at UIL State in San Antonio.

Please pay attention to the details of the final schedule and I will be sending plenty of updates during the day tomorrow.  The Alamodome is a bit tricky with parking and since we are performing last, parking might be very limited.  I would encourage parents to carpool as much as possible and allow for plenty of time to travel to San Antonio.  Also, please dress appropriately – lots of layers – all warm up activities will be outside until we push into the Alamodome for the performance.

Thanks again for all your support – this doesn’t happen without your participation to assist these students.

See you tomorrow!

President's Update

Hey Band!

Wow! This is such an amazing honor to be going to the State Marching Band Contest again! I am so proud of these students and their hard work. Our UIL area is one of the most competitive areas in the state! To represent Area D at the SMBC is a great accomplishment!

The next three weeks are going to be CRAZY BUSY! This is what the students have spent countless hours working towards. I'm so happy to see them rewarded for all of their hard work with great results at competitions!

  • Away Game at Del Valle - Friday, Oct. 27 - This will be the last regular season away game.
  • BOA Waco - Saturday, Oct. 28 - We will have a long day in Waco this Saturday! This will be a great opportunity to get another Bands of America competition under our belts before Grand Nationals.
  • TEXAS STATE MARCHING BAND CONTEST - Monday, Oct. 30 -Prelims for the SMBC are on October 30. Finals will be on Oct. 31 if we are one of the top 14 bands in prelims. We will know if we made finals after prelims on Oct. 30. Fortunately, this is a school holiday so the students will not be missing another day of school.
  • Last Home Game - Nov. 3 - Band Senior Night - Seniors and their parents will be recognized at the game. We will need lots of help in the concession stand from non-senior parents!
  • Indianapolis!! - Nov. 7-12 - It's almost here! It seems like last month that we were signing up for the trip! They are going to be AMAZING!
  • Playoff Game - Nov. 10 - We are likely going to host the first playoff game at Tiger Stadium. Unfortunately, this will be during the Indianapolis trip. If you are not going on the trip, PLEASE sign up to help us in the concession stand!

Be sure your student is getting lots of rest and keeping up with their school work! Have a great week! I hope everyone got some rest today!

Go Tiger Band!

Form needed to be filled out by a doctor for medication administered on the Indianapolis trip - Overnight Medication Log

Please contact me with any questions or concerns.

Kind regards,

All Parents Must Fill This Out - DSISD Registration is Required

We have had a few instances where parent volunteers have not registered with DSISD and completed the background check. They were not allowed to volunteer. Please complete this step if you have not done so already!

As a reminder, all band volunteers need to be registered as a DSISD volunteer with a completed background check on file. This is the same process to register as a classroom volunteer. You are required to register or update your registration every 12 months.

To register with DSISD as a volunteer or to check and see if you're registration is up-to-date, click here: DSISD Volunteer Registration

Percussion/ Pit Crew Update

Thank you all for your support this week to assist with the Pit Crew and Props.  We could not have been successful without the volunteers to support the band students.  We have 2 very busy weeks in front of us and will need you to sign up as early as possible to ensure we have enough volunteers.  The earlier the better.  We have an away game on Friday, 10/27, BOA competition in Waco on Saturday, 10/28 and then we are headed to UIL State the following Monday, 10/30.  Again, please review your calendars and sign up early.

For those that have indicated interest in helping at Indianapolis, I will be sending a final confirmation of your participation this week.  If you have changed your plans or if others are also interested in supporting the Pit Crew and Props in Indianapolis, please send me an email.

Again, thank you all for your support.

Also a shout out to all of the Kubby Keepers for washing our uniforms twice, in a tight turnaround this week between the games and competitions. Our students really appreciated their uniforms being clean and smelling good.

GO TIGER BAND!

Concessions - Volunteers Needed

We have our last scheduled home game on Friday 11/3 and need to make sure that the concessions stand is staffed.  This will be Senior Night for  band students and they will be recognized along with their parents.   We owe it to the parents with Seniors in the band to take the responsibility of running the concessions stand for this game so that they can participate and celebrate with their students.

11/10 Playoff Game – with the big WIN on Friday over Lake Travis we anticipate running the concessions when Drip will likely host its first playoff game on 11/10.     This one will be tricky because the band and many of our parents will be traveling to the BOA Grand Nationals.  We have solicited support from outside groups (at a cost) and we will slim down the menu (likely no catfish for this game), etc. but we need as many parents as possible that will not be traveling with the band to help with this game.

The band has had gross sales of over $125,000 in concessions this season to-date and we need to finish strong, so please do your part to support the BandBoosters largest fund raising activity.

Laurie Darilek and Jennifer LaRochelle

HEB.cards@gmail.com

To those of you still needing to get started with this fundraiser:

Please take the plunge and get your orders in by the 10th of the month so you can start getting your gift cards and the band can receive increased $$ benefits.

Order H-E-B gift cards here:  H-E-B Gift Card Order Form

From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,
Whew, we made it!  A short week into another big, successful contest, and that's just the beginning of the Bandtober Marathon this week.  We've entered the time of the season where all the hard work since July comes to fruition.  Please help to make sure your student gets rest when rest time is available.  It may be tempting to utilize a morning to sleep in instead of coming to rehearsal, but please remember that the band as a whole doesn't get better without your student present.
I just wanted to let everyone know how excited we are at earning 7th place at TMC this weekend. This is the first time that the Tiger Band has ever bested the Leander HS or Westlake HS bands! And we were able to present the entire show in competition, also for the first time. The show is being very well received by the judging community. The students just need more time with the newer stuff and more detailing and excellence with everything. Go Tiger Band!
UIL Region is on Tuesday, 5:15pm on 10/17 at Burger Center, then UIL Area on Saturday, 10/21 at Kelly Reeves.  The Area schedule won't be finalized till after our Region performance on Tuesday, so be on the lookout for that either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. It is a prelims/finals format, so plan on giving the whole day to the Tiger Band.  After Area we will know if we've qualified for UIL State on October 30 and 31.

UIL academic eligibility check #2 is here.  Students must have a 70 or above in on level classes and at least a 60 or above in Honors/AP courses as of Friday, 10/13.  **If your student had to use an exemption to remain eligible  for I1B, they must pass that class as exemptions may be used only once per semester per class.** Ineligibility will begin Friday, October 20th at 4:15pm.  If your student is ineligible, they must go home after school on Friday, they may not perform, be with or travel with the band while ineligible, but they will still attend all scheduled rehearsals.  If your student is ineligible for T1, they are not allowed to attend the BOA Grand Nationals trip to Indianapolis.

Rehearsal Schedule for this week:

Tuesday             see UIL Region Itinerary for details

President's Update

Hey Band!

What a great performance yesterday at the Texas Marching Classic competition! I am so proud of the directors and all of the students!

This week is a super crazy one (this seems to be a trend!). Be sure to check out Mr. Woods' section above and the Announcement Sheet to see the schedule because it is different this week.

  • Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 5:15 pm - UIL Region contest at Burger Stadium. This is not a prelims/finals format so it will be short and sweet, but please come out to support the kids.
  • Friday, Oct. 20 - Home Game against Lake Travis. This is going to be a super busy game. We are short 41 volunteer spots for the game! We have nicely asked people to please sign up. At this point, it's all hands on deck! We need to fill the concession stand slots at the game! Sign up here   Football Game Volunteer Signups
  • Saturday, Oct. 21 - UIL Area Marching Contest at Kelly Reeves Stadium (where we were yesterday).

If you would like an explanation of the UIL progression for marching contests (starting with region on Tuesday), here's an explanation.

UIL Marching Contests Explanation

Make sure your students are staying on top of schoolwork, getting good sleep, and staying hydrated! This is critically important as we go into the busiest time of the marching season. Only four weeks left!

Fundraising - Join the Team!

When marching band season is over in a few weeks, you’ll miss it.  You’ll have too much time on your hands and you’ll wish you were still scooping up liquid cheese while someone yells at you aggressively about “Tiger-izing” some chips.

But don’t worry — there are still important ways to be involved and make fun band parent friends next semester!   The Band Boosters have a few new fundraising events this Springs and we need to build a solid team or two to make them happen.  You’ll get to be creative and help form the very first iteration of what we hope become new traditions.

Please let me know if you’re interesting in being part of our team!  No one will make you be the lead on anything, I pinky promise.

Percussion/ Pit Crew Update

Thank you all for spending time supporting the Band Students this weekend – we truly can’t make these things happen without our volunteers.  I hope you all enjoy a day of rest and use some of that time to make plans to support the students this week with a total of (3) activities where we need lots of adult volunteers:

  • Tuesday – UIL Region at Burger Center (performance at 5:15pm – pit crew arrival by 3:30pm)
  • Friday – Home game – sign up by Wednesday so we can submit the volunteer list to DSISD
  • Saturday – UIL at Kelly Reeves Stadium (Schedule TBD)

Please review sign up and select your time slot to support, Pit Crew, Props and moving equipment.  Currently we are running very short on volunteers and will need you to sign-up for a volunteer spot as quickly as possible to ensure we can support the movement of the band for all of these events.  Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Thanks again for your continued support.

Uniform Update - Help Needed

Region 18 UIL Marching Contest, Tuesday, October 17th: Students will be wearing their Formal Competition Uniform. They will need their grey lycra bike shorts, grey dri-fit, long white socks, and white shoes (Directors will decide if their show shirt will be needed).

Many Thanks goes out to Lidia Smith, Doug Gibbs, Suzanne Meyers, Kimberly Bertram, Ashley Lovelace, Gina Morton, Marlene Gusella, and students: Milo Clevens, Bri Hollingsworth, Katharine Blakesley, Nareese Gibbs and Niamh Jacobs for all of their help cutting, serging, and sewing material, snaps, and velcro to get the all of our inserts and drops done for the upcoming contest. All of their help has made a HUGE difference for our band students' performance.

Concessions - Volunteers Needed

We have two scheduled games remaining and as of this morning we have less than have of the support needed to operate the concessions stands.  Please, if you have not signed up to work a few shifts in concessions as requested at the beginning of the year, please sign up today.  It is not fair for the same families to step-up because others have not.

10/20 – Lake Travis – this will likely be the biggest game of the season at our stadium.  We expect a full house – I would not be surprised if both sides are sold out, so we need to be fully staffed.

11/3 -    Senior Night – our last regularly scheduled game of the season.  We owe it to the parents of Seniors in the band to take the responsibility of running the concessions stand for this game so that they can participate in the celebration of their students.

**11/10 Playoff Game – we will be adding a sign-up for a tentative game on 11/10 when DS will likely host its first playoff game of the year in our stadium.   This one will be tricky because the band and many of our parents will be traveling to the BOA Grand Nationals.  We will solicit support from outside groups (at a cost) and will slim down the menu (likely no catfish for this game), etc. but we need as many parents as possible that will not be traveling with the band to help with this game.

From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,

I hope your student enjoyed the Homecoming week festivities.  We were able to perform the whole show for the first time Post-Game, and it's shaping up to be a really, really good show.  I'm so excited for the students to be able to show off all of their hard work on Saturday, Oct. 14th at TMC, Tuesday, Oct. 17th at UIL Region 18 and Oct. 21st at UIL Area D. It's going to be a lot of fun and very taxing, so please help your student to keep on top of all of their school work and sleep so they can perform at their best.  And same goes for you...we need you in top form, too!

The rehearsal schedule is affected by the school holiday on Monday and UIL on Tuesday the next week, so please look carefully at this week and next week's schedule.

Percussion/ Pit Crew Update

Hope everyone is enjoying the Fall weather.  We have a busy schedule this week with an away game Friday night at Westlake and the Texas Marching Classic on Saturday.  Thank you for all those that have signed up for Friday night – all spots for Pit Crew are full.  We could certainly use a few more folks for Pit Crew and props on Saturday.  The more hands we have, the better we can assist the students while they prep for competition.  We will also be working to create a separate volunteer tent area on Saturday – away from the band equipment - so we minimize any distractions for the students.  Hopefully the weather continues to cooperate.  Our performance time is at 2pm on Saturday so please plan to arrive at Kelly Reeves Stadium around 12noon – 12:30pm.

Caryn and I are continuing to finalize the pit crew help for Indianapolis and we will have this finalized this week.

Thanks again for your continued support.

Uniform Update - Help Needed

Away Game against Westlake, Friday Night, October 13th: Students will be wearing their Formal Uniform. They will need their grey lycra bike shorts, grey dri-fit, long black socks, and black shoes.  It is advisable that the student keeps a gym bag of some sort to put all their items in. It also helps if they mark their initials in their clothes and shoes, markers in the uniform room if requested.

Texas Marching Classic Contest at Kelly Reeves Stadium, Saturday, October 14th: Students will be wearing their Formal Competition Uniform. They will need their grey lycra bike shorts, grey dri-fit, long white socks, and white shoes and the show shirt to change into.  We would advise that students clean their white shoes to look their best. A magic eraser and a damp cloth should suffice. These are leather, so do not scrub too hard and take the color off.

If you have any further questions, please contact us at: uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.

Thank you,

Chaperones Needed

Taking care of our 200 kids during contests is a big job and needs a big team! We would love to add a few parents to our group who are willing to spend the day with us. The job isn’t difficult and is mainly just meeting the needs of the kids that may come up that day. In return, you’ll get a front row seat for all of the band action, and you’ll get to know the best kids and parents you’ll ever meet. Join us!

Concessions - Volunteers Needed

Thanks to everyone who helped out in the concession stand on Friday night for Homecoming!

Our next home game will be another crazy one when DS hosts Lake Travis on October 20. We need all the help we can get in the concession stand!

If you have not signed up for your shifts in concessions for this year, please do it today!

From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,
The Tiger Band earned 1st place Class 5A, 1st place Color Guard and 1st place Percussion and a spot in Finals on Saturday at the Capital City Marching Festival.  I'm really proud of how much grit and determination all the performers are showing in the face of the very hot conditions we've performed in for prelims so far.  After cooling down a bit, the Tiger Band put on a very energetic and emotional performance in Finals to earn Overall Champion and Best Percussion. The most important part, to me, is that the students are learning how to approach our performance opportunities with professionalism and passion, along with having a great time with each other.  Thanks as always to Jared Jones and the chaperone team, Tara Ballard and Tanya Conreaux and the food team, the Band Movers and Pit Crew headed up by Logan Lucas and Allison Muth, respectively. And just as important...everyone in the audience supporting the Tiger Band.  The new spirit items were very effective!
This week is Homecoming and PSAT, so there are pretty significant changes to our rehearsal schedule this week.  Please note that there is something going on after school every day this week.  Fortunately, we have the weekend off from competing, so I urge everyone to rest up and get your chores done...starting with TMC on October 14 it gets pretty crazy.  Bandtober, as it's known in the Band World, is a real thing!  But it's so exciting to see the show coming together and the students starting to really perform.  Let's push all the way to the end.  We're going to turn Indiana into a "Fugue State" real soon!
Congratulations to the 6 students who auditioned for the TMEA Region 18 Jazz Bands.

Omar Acosta, Alto Sax 2nd chair Jazz Band One and Area qualifier

James Lamb, Alto Sax 10th chair

Nathan Gibbs, Alto Sax 13th chair

Keegan Ballard, Tenor Trombone, 6th chair Jazz Band Two

Finlay Tiller, Tenor Trombone, 11th chair

Robbie Burns, Tenor Trombone, 15th chair

Percussion/ Pit Crew Update

Thank you to all the volunteers that assisted on Friday night and again on Saturday.  It was a great weekend to support our students.  The upcoming Pit Crew sign up list is full for Friday night’s Homecoming game on 10/6.  Please consider volunteering for Concessions.

For those that are signed-up, names will be submitted to the school and it will be important that you check in at the volunteer station behind the home concession to receive a wristband on Friday evening.  Only those with a wristband can enter the field. It’s Homecoming so security will be very watchful of who enters the field.

In addition, I am working closely with Caryn this week to review volunteer efforts for the Indianapolis trip.  I do have emails from the past few weeks, but if plans have changed or now that you may have finalized travel plans, please provide any updates to percussion@dsbandboosters.org.  We will be finalizing volunteer support this week.

Thanks again for your help with Pit Crew and moving equipment.  See you Friday evening.

Thanks

Volunteer Central

Thanks to all of our volunteers who served as chaperones, pit crew members and prop pullers this weekend! Our band wouldn't be the grand prize winners that they are without you. Every single one of you is so very appreciated!!

And now, here are a few upcoming *somewhat urgent* ways to serve:

Homecoming Concessions Stands - We have had a record-selling year in concessions so far this season, and we expect an overflowing house for homecoming this Friday. We will need ALL of the help we can get! If you haven't served in concessions yet, this will be a fun night to see what it is all about.

Look for Concessions Stand - Game Night Operations and Remote Drink & Snack Stand in the sign-ups. Sign up here >>  https://signup.com/go/qXHAYBW

Texas Marching Classic - Our next competition is on Saturday, 10/14 at the Kelly Reeves Complex again and we will need plenty of help with Pit Crew, Prop Pullers, Chaperones, and Color Guard Chaperones. Please don't wait to sign up if you can help >> https://signup.com/go/OjQEGJi

Tiger Band Sign-Up Landing Page - As always, you can find ALL of the volunteer needs and spots at this link >> https://signup.com/go/ upuBfCt

Uniform Update - Help Needed

Sewing Group:  We are almost finished cutting the materials and we are getting ready to serge drops and inserts. Once they are completed we will then need people to help cut snap tape, cut velcro strips, sew buttons, as well as sew everything together. We hope to start sewing by Monday, October 2nd. We do need them done and fitted by October 13th. Come join the fun to get these made.

If you have any further questions, please contact us at: uniforms@dsbandboosters.org.

Taking care of our 200 kids during contests is a big job and needs a big team! We would love to add a few parents to our group who are willing to spend the day with us. Concessions - Volunteers Needed

We're at the mid-point of the concessions season, and are having a great year - sales after a scrimmage, TITH, and two home games sales are 13% ahead of this time last year, and our next two games are expected to be the biggest of the season.

This Friday 10/6  is Homecoming and then in two weeks on 10/20 Lake Travis will be visiting our stadium.

As of this morning we still need to fill 31 spots for this Friday's game and there are 39 spots to fill for the Lake Travis game.  We will need a full team to handle the crowds for both of these games.  If you have not signed up for your shifts in concessions for this year, please do it today!
