Butter Braids Fundraiser - Final Week

Back by popular demand -- the annual Butter Braids fundraiser! This week is the final week so get your orders in!

We are only taking online orders this year.  Kids sign up to sell using this link: https://store.myfundraisingplace.com/RegisterSeller/70a425b1-6d53-4cf3-b90e-652a24c979df

Once your student does that, they'll get an email from "My Fundraising Place" with a link to their store that you can share with friends and family.

Word of caution: you'll be delivering these orders, so don't share the link with people to whom you aren't willing to travel  -- if your high school best friend in Seattle buys a set of frozen sticky buns from your kid's link, you'll be taking a fun trip to the Northwest with a cooler of pastry.

Kids -- or their parents -- MUST pick up the items they sold immediately after school on Thursday, March 21st.  Then, the products must be either delivered or put into your family's freezer right away; the products absolutely cannot be left unfrozen.  If that is not a commitment your family can make, that's totally okay, but please do not participate in the fundraiser.

As always, let me know if you've got questions, concerns, or random thoughts about fundraising!

Senior Photos Needed! DUE by Spring Break

Hi senior parents! I am working on the senior books and this is the last week to get me your senior photos! I really want to make sure I get your child in the book!!

Please send in pictures of your kiddos from freshman to senior year to nicolermoore@yahoo.com. They must be high resolution, no screenshots or texted images please- they will turn out fuzzy. If you can tell me your students name and what year for each picture so I will know how to group them I’d appreciate it.  Most have sent separate emails for each year for their child and I have gotten anywhere from 3 pictures of each year to 30 pictures of each year. I’ll use them the best I can.

I really need these by spring break so that I’ll have time to get the book all together. Thank you SO MUCH for your help with this!

From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,
I hope that you were able to catch the DSISD Percussion Concert on Friday - it was an incredible display of the hard work and dedication of all the Percussion students grades 6-12 from all 3 campuses. Mr. Ehlers, Mr. Demetriou and Mr. Morales are doing a wonderful job at creating a culture of inclusivity, diversity and excellence through Percussion at all levels. It was a truly delightful evening.
UIL Solo and Ensemble went very well on Saturday, our Tiger Band Woodwind and Brass students performed really well and earned 106 1st Division, 19 2nd Division and 3 3rd Division ratings. 17 students performed at Class 1 solo from memory and qualified for UIL State, along with all 5 ensembles. Overall it was a great day of music making for the Tiger Band.
I had a parent ask me on Saturday - what is the purpose of Solo and Ensemble? That is a great question... A public solo performance with or without an accompanist satisfies several TEA Music TEKS. This is a big reason why all students are required to prepare and perform a solo in order to continue in the Tiger Band program for the next year. It is also an opportunity for each student to develop their musicianship skills as an individual, rather than just through the large ensemble setting like Marching or Concert Band. Each performer receives specific feedback regarding their preparation and performance in the form of comments from the judge, in addition to their rating. Ratings are I - Superior, II - Excellent, III - Good, IV - Fair, V - Poor.

Rehearsal Schedule for this week:

Zips Car Wash Fundraiser - ENDS THURSDAY

Our Zips Car wash Fundraiser is LIVE!!!  From now until March 1st, you, your friends, and your family can buy a car wash from our Dripping Springs Zips Car wash location and a full 50% of the cost of the wash will go straight to our Tiger Band!

Here's how it works:

1) Buy the wash from our Zips link: https://wlink.live/2024_drippingsprings

2) Zips will immediately send you a QR code for your car wash via email and text

3) Scan the QR Code when you get to the kiosk at the carwash

The car washes you buy are good for a full 10 months after purchase -- that means you can buy a ton, because your car is going to get dirty several times between now and Thanksgiving!

What the band needs from you:

1) Buy 10 months' worth of car washes for your family  -- that's a lot of car washes.

2) Buy some car washes and gift them to people, because who doesn't love a carwash?

3) Send the link out to your friends and neighbors; they're going to get their cars washed at Zips anyway, so they may as well support the band while they're at it (don't forget to tell them that the washes are good for 10 months!)

4) Share our Zips fundraiser graphic on your social media

The proceeds of this fundraiser will go straight to helping pay for the new end of the year Band Ball for our kids, so it's a cause we all want to support!

If you have any questions, please always reach out!

Word of caution: you'll be delivering these orders, so don't share the link with people to whom you aren't willing to travel  -- if your high school best friend in Seattle buys a set of frozen sticky buns from your kid's link, you'll be taking a fun trip to the Northwest with a cooler of pastry.

Percussion Update

The students are finalizing their efforts for the Percussion Concert on Friday, 2/23.   You don’t want to miss this concert with highlights from the Outstanding Percussion Soloists from both Middle School and High School as well as a special composition in honor of Dorian Kweller.

We will be serving pizza to the middle school and high students prior to the concert and could utilize a few parents to assist.  Let me know if you are available to assist by sending an email to: percussion@dsbandboosters.org.

In addition, we are seeking to fill the Percussion Liaison position for next year.  If you are interested, please reach out to myself or Caryn Pacelli for further information.  I’ve truly enjoyed my time serving in this role and will be around for 1 more year to support the new Liaison.

Hi senior parents! I have started working on the senior books and I still need your photos! I have received pictures for 11 out of the 35 seniors.

Fundraising Opportunity - Zips Car Wash!

Percussion Update

Percussion:

Another week of rehearsals in the morning and afternoon – please review the schedule. We are looking forward to next Saturday, February 3rd for the Percussion solo contest. All students will check-in at the band hall based on their scheduled time slots and practice activities for the day.  I will be there during the day to visit with parents and support the event.  Let me know if you would like to assist – it only takes about 2 adults for this event – primarily to support set-up and provide hospitality for the Percussion judges.

TCGC / Pageantry in the Spring:

If your child completed volunteer hours and did not receive a certificate, please inform your student to send me an email directly at percussion@dsbandboosters.org.  I will provide certificates to Mr. Woods before the end of the week.

Thanks!

PitS Update

Woohoo…we did it! It’s Sunday, January 28th and another Pageantry in the Springs is in the books!! We hosted exactly 80 Percussion and Color Guard units from across Central Texas, and it was a long, exciting, busy, and successful day. Congratulations to Mr. Vereen and the JV & Varsity Winterguard teams for getting their first competition of the season under their belts, and for their 5th (JV) and 1st (Varsity) place finishes!! Thank you, thank you to all the adult and student volunteers who gave their time and energy into making this event a success! I can’t say, “THANK YOU” enough!

Your phenomenal Tiger Band Students were helpful and enthusiastic as always. I’m so thankful for all 118 student volunteers that covered 165 volunteer spots. We had 38 incredible Adult volunteers covering 88 shifts (and other jobs), with a handful of outstanding people doing multiple shifts. Plus my awesome Volunteer Leads who were there from the early morning to late at night! All that to say, it cannot and does not happen without your help! If you couldn’t make it this year, we missed you (because we did have fun while we worked hard) and we NEED YOU next year.

Thanks for all the support in time, energy, and donations to make Pageantry in the Springs 2024 a successful fundraiser for DSHS Tiger Band!

Concessions - Thank You!

Thank you to all the amazing parent and student volunteers that helped out in Concessions yesterday for Pageantry in the Springs. Because of your support, we were able to provide food, snacks, and drinks from 7am till after 10pm. Everyone came with a great attitude and showed why Dripping Springs High School Band has the best parents and students around.

Special thanks to the parent volunteers who stayed beyond their scheduled shift time to help out when we were short-handed, and to the volunteers who took an additional shift to ensure we provided support to the color guard members and spectators.

Go Tiger Band!

From Mr. Woods:

Hello Tiger Band Family,
We are hosting another of our annual major fundraiser events happening this coming Saturday, and we need everyone's help throughout the long day.  Pageantry in the Springs is a great opportunity for us all to come together again after a couple of months away.  Please see the link below to sign up for at least one shift to make sure the PitS contest event runs smoothly for all the performers and audience members coming to DSHS to share their productions in friendly competition. If you've never experienced an indoor winterguard or percussion event before, this is a great opportunity to see what all the excitement is about. As with the TitH event in September, the DSHS Band Boosters and students are known for being awesome hosts of well-run and friendly contest events.

We need your help, and every student's help, to make sure this event is up to our visitor's expectations. Please consider volunteering for more than one shift, especially the afternoon and evening shifts as they tend to have less volunteer participation but are the times we have the most performers and audience members on campus. Our very own JV and Varsity Winterguards will be premiering their 2024 productions.

Senior Photos Needed

Attention senior parents! I have started working on the senior books and we need your photos! Please send in pictures of your kiddos from freshman to senior year to nicolermoore@yahoo.com.

The photos must be high resolution, no screenshots or texted images please- they will turn out fuzzy. If you can tell me your students name and what year for each picture so we will know how to group them we’d appreciate it.  Some have sent separate emails for each year for their child and I have gotten a Google doc with them organized and that works great too.

Thanks so much! I’m excited to get started on this!

Upcoming Fundraising Opportunities

In February, we’ll be kicking off both a Zips carwash fundraiser and the annual Butter Braids fundraiser.  Stay tuned for details!

Thanks again for your continued fundraising support!

HEB Gift Cards Fundraiser Info - PLEASE READ!

As we begin a new year, please join the HEB Fundraiser. It's simple...

1. You purchase HEB gift cards (just like all of those holiday cards you buy for your family at Christmas).

2. You receive the full amount of your purchase to be used at HEB or Central Market for groceries, gas, prescriptions, etc. You do not have to pay the band a penny for this.

3. HEB donates a portion of the purchase back to the band. The larger the amount of gift cards that we sell, the larger the percentage HEB gives back.

If everyone participates, the band can raise as much money as some of our fundraisers without a cost to anyone.

If you aren’t in the mix already, please consider adding this to your 2024 To-Do list. It really is so easy to purchase gift cards that can be used for groceries, gas, and prescriptions, and our band will benefit. If you are already participating, perhaps it’s time to consider increasing your monthly amount. I know my cards get used quickly with our busy household!

Here is the link to get you started! Email with any questions to hebcards@gmail.com

Band Banquet will be Thursday, April 25, 2024, this year!

I hope that everyone has had a wonderful holiday break, and are ready to dive right into 2024. I know that the band staff is happy and ready to work with all our Tiger Band students to provide the best opportunities for us all to grow as musicians, performers, and most importantly, as people.

A big thank you for representing the Tiger Band goes to the small ensembles that performed at the Dripping Springs Western Wonderland at Ranch Park prior to the holiday break.

Congratulations to all of our TMEA AREA E auditionees.  These students kept their building over the break to participate on Saturday at Westlake HS in the Area auditions. We are sooo proud of all the students that chose to engage themselves in the TMEA All-State process, starting with at the Region level, and these 21 Area students went the extra mile to represent themselves, the Tiger Band and Dripping Springs HS at a very high level.

March-a-thon Event Qualifiers

Marchathon Epic Fun Event

Thank you to all of our students and families who participated in our fall Marchathon fundraiser. The band could not have travelled to Grand Nationals without the help of every single one of you!

The Band Boosters will be sponsoring an evening at Epic Fun for the students who met their $300 fundraising goal.  If your student qualified for this prize, you should have received an email from me last week.

If you didn’t get the email but believe your student should have qualified, please double check the list of qualifiers and let me know if there’s an error (or if you need the email resent)!
